McDavid is really the only differentiator for the 2015 team but he isn't good enough to overcome the depth advantage for 2003, especially with the likes of Suter, Weber, Seabrook, etc. patrolling the blueline and Bergeron/Kesler/Richards taking match-ups. Head-to-head, I'm going 2003.

I'm actually kind of blown away that anyone is taking 2015; 2003 is better at every position except #1C. I mean 2003 has a 100 point center and 40-goal Selke winner on the 4th line. 2015 would be straight-up bullied in a playoff series.
Okay. Let's look at 2012 season end and rank 2003 draft by points:
Vanek 52
Getzlaf 68
Perry 56
Bergeron 42
Parise 24
Carter pace for ~100 but in reality much lower
Pavelski 50
Richards 34
Brown 76
Staal 21
Kesler 103
Backes 74

Highest are 21 24 34 42 in the point-scoring race.

Okay, now let's rank the 2015 draft by the 2024 points:
Kaprizov 11
McDavid 3
Marner 22
Connor 84
Aho 18
Rantanen 8
Hintz 74
Eichel 61
Barzal 29
Boeser 43
Eriksson Ek 78
Konecny 59
Meier pace for ~85, in reality lower (126)

Highest are 3, 8, 11, 18, 22.

"Better at every position except 1C" how delusional.

2003 is clearly the more complete team. The Dcore especially is not even close, 03´s 3rd pairing is better than anything the other team can throw on the ice.

2003 for me. They had a lot of defensive juggernauts and guys that were a pain in the ass. They also had the 3 best blueliners between both classes. Prime Bergeron would help with bottling up McDavid

If we are talking about a 7 game playoff style series, in a head to head I'm taking the more physical 2003 team. That team can get to the net for greasy goals. Would play more of a 2-1 or 3-2 style of game. Rely on their better D and G.

Let’s use a single season to determine value and then call others delusional. Makes sense

Best point finishes first 9 years after the draft:

20032015
Perry - 3
Parise - 5
Getzlaf -6
Staal - 7
Carter - 12
Kesler - 15
Vanek - 15
Eriksson - 15
Richards - 16
Pavelski - 30
Bergeron - 40
Backes - 49
Brown - 54
McDavid - 1
Marner - 4
Kaprizov - 5
Rantanen - 5
Eichel - 10
Connor - 13
Barzal - 13
Aho - 16
Boeser - 29
Hintz - 40
Meier - 42
Konecny - 59
Eriksson Ek - 78

And best goal scoring finishes in the first 9 years among those who had a top 10 finish:

20032015
Perry - 1
Carter - 2
Parise - 3
Vanek - 5
Kesler - 5
Staal - 5
McDavid - 1
Rantanen -3
Kaprizov - 5
Connor - 5
Aho - 6
Eichel - 8

There’s really not much separating the best seasons between these two in terms of best scoring finishes during their first 9 years. And that’s not even considering that the poll says nothing about the first 9 years and guys like Pavelski and Bergeron had better offensive seasons later in their careers. Someone like Getzlaf also had a Hart and Art Ross runner up year. It’s also not considering 2003 are typically more rounded forwards, or the defence, where 2003 having Burns, Byfuglien and Weber are clearly better offensively.

2003 draft often cited as the best/deepest of all time. There was an entire era of hockey that was heavily defined by this draft. That said, a lot of careers that started off strong and had HOF trajectory fell off and, as such, there won't be as many HOF'ers as initially thought. This draft also might start to look less strong in retrospect as newer generations forget how good guys like Mike Richards, Dion Phaneuf, Shea Weber, Jeff Carter, Eric Staal etc really were since they don't have eye-popping numbers or individual hardware.

2015 just keeps getting better and better and I think may end up with more HOF'ers although less depth.

Which roster do you take?

2003:

Vanek - Getzlaf - Perry
Parise - Bergeron - Carter
Pavelski - Richards - Brown
Staal - Kesler - Backes
Eriksson

Suter - Weber
Seabrook - Phaneuf
Methot - Byfuglien
Enstrom

Fleury
Crawford

2015:

Kaprizov - McDavid - Marner
Connor - Aho - Rantanen
Hintz - Eichel - Barzal
Boeser - Eriksson Ek - Konecny
Meier

Hanifin - Werenski
Provorov - Dunn
Andersson - Chabot
Carlo

Hill
Montembeault

EDIT: Totally meant to have Brent Burns on the '03 team but I won't edit the team now.
Put Burns in for Buff and the 2003 D is outstanding.

2015 very obviously better, quite shocking poll results to me
On individual talent, I can see a case for that.

If we are talking about pitting these 2 drafts against each other in a playoff series, I think 2003 wins it unless they are calling the rules like the 2005-2006 season. Any other officiating, and it's 2003 IMO. G and D much stronger and their forwards are big and can still skate. Would aim to play a heavy game vs the 2015 Dcore down low and cycle it for dirty goals in tight.

I think 2015 skates circles around 2003, they won't touch the puck. Way too much offensive firepower.

03 would destroy 15, bully them all over the ice. A team full of proven champions that is built for when the going gets tough, plus a far better group of 2 way players.

I like the 15 forwards better but holy smokes the D in 03 is insane and the G is much better as well. With the forwards not as good but also not super far behind I think 03 takes the cake pretty easily for me at least.

Why don’t we try harder to cherry pick a down statistical season for the 03 draft class. Oh wait you can’t….

You mean Getzlaf finishing 68th in scoring isn’t more indicative of his ability than his 3 top 10 finishes and 5 top 10 point per game finishes?
