20 Years Ago - First and Only Woman to play an NHL Game (TSN Feature)

Seriously?

You think the difference between a conditioned male athlete and a conditioned female athlete is this extreme?

That is ridiculous.

Now, to be fair, the comparisons have been done on top female atheletes vs. top male athletes. The top male athletes are going to have better conditioning (on a relative scale) simply because their career demands it. There's also a much larger taletn base.

That's bullcrap. Women of similar condition than men tend to have better stamina and longevity compared to their male peers. As for the recovery argument...that doesn't even deserve an answer. :shakehead

Not from what read. Especially short-term. Long-term, women have more fat to burn, but hockey does not fit that definition of long-term.

At the rate that the women's game is improving in competition level and growing in popularity amongst girls in North America, I don't think it'll be much longer than 10 years before we see another female goaltender in the NHL.

Why is there going to be another expansion team planning on doing a publicity stunt?

Look, in all honesty if there aren't 60 men in the world that can play goalie better than the best female in the world then let's face it, our game is officially literally watered down. And yes I would rather be accurate than politically correct.

Manon didn't suck as a goalie, she won a couple WCs with Canada.

it was a great PR stunt. She didn't totally embarrass herself out there, she's an attractive French woman, and the Lightning got a ton of attention. Trader Phil was packing them in there in the 90s, they were drawing more people than the Tampa Bay Rays (one of the better teams in baseball) are drawing in the same building today.

I think she has a lot of guts to play for NHL team like that and receive all that media attention. The good and mostly negative stuff that just focused on her being a woman. That's quite the bit of mental stress right there. I can't make it to the NHL so she's done more then me plus she did well with the woman's team. Also girls hockey benefited from that for sure. They now have their world championships shown on TSN. At least most of the Canadian games are and that's certainly something. I have two sisters in hockey right now, both goalies. Women's hockey is slowly growing into the right direction.
