Discussion on the pre-game interview with Torts, and he was talking about Sanheim's and his minutes:
- Says they'll try him on top PP (and did last game)
- Says they won't take his minutes away from Sanhiem from other areas and (jokingly) stated he'll play him 40 mins a night
- Says he doesn't look at numbers or anything like that, but Shaw does
- Says they get a booklet of numbers at the end of each game, and he can't figure it out so he just doesn't look at it
- Gave him credit for the first year he played here to where he is now (same player as previous years)

LOL NHL Coach....

Also said that Thompson and Shaw study those numbers and fill him in.

Not sure it's that good of an idea for the HC to get buried in the weeds, that's why you have a head of analytics and assistant coaches.

When the HC gets too deep into this sort of stuff, the temptation to micromanage sets in.

Are you serious?

The guy doesn't do anything. He doesn't like tape. He doesn't bother watching when he's in the press box dodging his job. He is proud of not communicating with players. He doesn't bother with the Xs and Os. Maybe he should try wandering into the weeds just a little bit. I know for a fact it's definitely a bad idea for the coach to be as detached as he is.

Andrae should have started the year in the NHL instead of EJ and you can rotate players. You don't need to say he's #7 and that means he's in the press box full time until someone is hurt.

Lyksell should be up in a third line/fourth line spot right now. Abols and Ekliind were brought over on two way deals they could be rotated through to see what they got in them. Remember that revolving door we were promised last year?????

THAT is what is called using the year of a rebuild to see what you got. Rather than keeping players in the AHL.

Attard should have got that treatment last year but nope to LHV until injuries force their hands.
Lycksell in place of whom? They're already giving Richard (27) a cameo, Lycksell (25) will get his shot.

Beef keeps telling me TC is meaningless, and Andrae certainly didn't earn a spot off last year's performance in LHV.

Abols and Eklind didn't show enough in camp, Abols is playing well in LHV, but behind Richard and Lycksell and maybe Tuomaala, who has picked up his game at 5x5.

We have so many veterans, Couts and Hathaway at forward, Risto and Seeler on defense.
You want to bench Couts?

Coots no because he brings the Veteran presence what you will tell me Hathaway/Nic are here for. Coots/TK/Laughton bring enough vet presence nightly. Now you use Hathaway/Brink/Frost (since he's in the dog house right now)/any other doghouse player to rotate in the players you want to look at. BTW Richard is only here because Frost is in said Doghouse.

Sanheim is a vet also but you'll leave him off because can't give more names as veterans or that proves we don't need EJ

Sanheim is 28, TK is 27. You want to play "prospects" who are 24/25.

Richard is here b/c he was the best player on LHV, impressed in TC, and has the speed they covet.
So they're giving him an opportunity to show he belongs.
Kind of low cost move rebuilding teams make.

Flyers have FEWER 30+ players than most of the teams that are rebuilding.

Age is not a measure of veteran... try years playing in NHL.

TK is in his 9th year in the NHL... Just to show you he's a vet.

Sanheim is in his 8th ... again Vet

And as for prospect that are 24/25 what does that say that Sanheim and TK have played as many years in the NHL and those prospects are still in the AHL....

Not only does the head coach not get buried in the weeds, he doesn't get in the garden all.

We're talking about someone who just doesn't coach games sometimes when he feels like it, doesn't do work in the preseason, and doesn't look at stats.

I wish I had that kind of "do nothing" position. Must be nice.

How can that be proven when they don't get a fair chance at the NHL?

Lyksell has 26 games over 2 years.... and that's the guy they "gave a shot during a rebuild"
Lyksell is 25, has below average speed, average size, has enough skill to stick on a bottom six role, but doesn't provide much for STs. Kind of guy Flyers used to plug in on the 4th line in past years. He's played well at LHV the past couple years, but he didn't "dominate" the AHL.

Should he get another shot? Sure. After they find out if Richard's scoring heater is a fluke or he's been misused in his earlier cameos.
But I don't want him in the top 9 taking minutes from TK, Michkov, Tippett, Farabee, Brink or Foerster.
And he's not going to play the PK ahead of Cates or Hathaway.

So you admit he could stick in a bottom six role?

And how much cap would he be taking compared to Hathaway or Delo?

As for PK you can rotate him through it. They use how many guys on it now? 6 had over a minute last game and that don't include Coots.

For who? For what?
Delo was a heirloom. They'd be happy to move him out.
Hathaway is a better player than Lycksell and plays on a top PK unit.
By PK TOI, Poehling, Laughton, Hathaway, TK, Cates.

Briere has gone out of his way to label him as urgently important and he was one of the most focused-on players in the summer by team media, which you'll recall is the purview of the President of Hockey Ops.

There is zero chance they would consider it, much less be happy about it.

Oh he knows DeLo isn't going anywhere but he can say he'd like for it to happen so at least he can say he was right when it finally ends when the contract isn't renewed whenever that is or he retires.
