THIS DATE IN FLYERS' HISTORY: October 9, 1986
th
Ron Hextall made an auspicious NHL debut with 21 saves and Ron Sutter and Peter Zezel scored third period goals in the Flyers' 2-1 home win against the Edmonton Oilers . Jari Kurri scored a PPG 2:08 into the game, the first shot Hextall faced, and the goal held up until the 9-minute mark of the third period. Hextall later robbed Wayne Gretzky and when the incredulous Great One asked "Who are you?," Hextall replied "Ron Hextall. Who are you?" After the game, Gretzky said "He got stronger as the game went on. He just got better and better." Hextall asked about the start, said "I was really surprised that I started. I had a lot of butterflies during the (pregame) ceremonies but I calmed down once the game started."

I wish they would use these pairings on d even though mdz-schenn looked pretty good

Streit-Coburn
MacDonald-Schenn
Grossmann-mdz

Then look for someone to replace grossmann do mdz can play the left side

Flyers better clean up their breakouts....Devils are one of the best puck possession teams..they just can't finish...or couldn't last year.

Hoping for a decisive win!

Expecting a typical game against the Devils though... tough defensive battles, many shots on goal but few quality scoring chances.
They better not dig themselves another slow start hole early.

Hoping the first line shows up tonight, much easier competition for them against the Devils over Bruins, so I'm thinking they will.

Hopefully Mason is as solid as he was last night.

And finally, Coburn and AMac better get their **** together, if they're suppose to be our top pairing this season they've got a lot of work to do, because that was embarrassing. Mainly Coburn.

Surprised Mason is starting. I thought Berube didn't like goalies playing back to back.

Devils forward group is so sad.

And Larsson is a scratch again?

Much better chance of winning tonight than last night.

I don't see you guys losing tonight honestly. The Devils are notorious for sleep walking through the first game of the year. Plus our coach is the worst. I would rather have a bowl of pickles coaching this team rather than DeBoer.
