It's also the best time for upsets before teams have set lineups.
And making it the season opener allowed them to go West a day earlier than they would in mid-season.

This will be a good test, Calgary is a mediocre team, but back to back after flying 600 miles on the West Coast is a tough assignment.

This is an exciting team to watch, probably the fastest Flyer team I've ever seen, they play fast and make plays for both teams.

It's a 1 hour flight, you are descending into Calgary before you even think you hit peak elevation. The flight will not be a problem for this team. Back to back on the west coast time zone however definitely could see some tired guys in the 3rd.

Carlsson missed about ~20 games with a knee injury and concussion. He also was a year older with 2 years of pro hockey. And better.

If they want Luchanko to make the team, then just tell him he made the team. If they are still uncertain, then let him play every game in a rhythm. A back to back scratch is okay, but for the love of god, if their plan is to stretch this for 2 months…..
