Depends what you mean by "Top C". Do you mean Sillinger/Rossi/Kulich/Pinto/Hayton, who are not yet established as 2Cs and would be a risk to invest in, or do you mean more established/higher potential players like McTavish/Lundell/Wright/Byfield?Wild would trade Rossi as a part of large deal for a Top C or for Top C prospect, not a Dman. Wild have no reason to take on any Dman in the hope of flipping. Don't get why People think Canucks would't give their top prospects for a Top C.
The only part we can agree on is the last part
To me, the former should be in the 1st + good prospect range, while the latter is in top prospect (Willander/Lekk)++ territory.
Then you have the 3rd option, which is go after older players to fill the gap in what it would take to draft/develop/luck out in a change-of-scenery deal for the longer-term C. So, Horvat/Kadri/Cirelli/W. Karlsson/etc... Hopefully this would be a closer acquisition cost to the former...
