So let’s say Islanders entertain their continued pathway and want to compete with their current group next year. Would they entertain a package of Rasmus Andersson, Conner Zary, Hunter Brzustewicz and both of our 1st round picks this year which are 18th overall and Florida’s pick for 1st overall this year!

Islanders fill many needs with great young players and Andersson helps their blue line immediately! Flames draft Misa at 1 and finally get their number 1 center. I know I am dreaming but maybe we could get a miracle here?

Thats horrible value for the Flames.

As a Flames fan, I say hell no! We just finished with 96 points and there is more young talent on the way.

Gutting our team to chase a fantasy #1 pick really won't help anything, but causing us to tank.

We have the makings of a pretty good top 5 with Brustewicz, Morin, Bahl, Weegar and Parekh. Why go after Schafer when we need a top line fwd?

These kind of proposals never go well on HF.

Without Wolf or Parekh included Flames don't have the assets to get #1
And there's no way those two are getting traded. Wolf is a Calder candidate and Parekh is a top 5 league wide prospect. That's likely the ceiling for the #1 overall pick this year. There's no true guaranteed franchise center.

Why? The Flames have their future great dman in Parekh. If anything they'd have more interest in #2-3 overall. That package with Zary and Brzus is too much.

IMO overpay by the flames. If you want Misa trade for the 2nd pick and take out Brzustewicz. Schaefer going 1st you can book that.

Schaefer >> Parekh, don’t be stupid.

I have absolutely zero interest in trading the Misa pick for a defenseman who will be a UFA in a year, an undersized middle-six winger, and a couple late 1sts. Absolutely zero shot.

Schaefer is better, but the difference isn't that big. Parekh's play has continued to improve since his draft, and he's shot to the prospect rankings.
It really is. And I say that as someone who has watched dozens of games of Parekh and really likes him.

If somehow this trade went through Flames would 100% take Misa, not Schaefer.
Well aware which is why I suggested trading for second overall pick where Misa likely goes. First overall pick has more value.

Disregard though got mixed up- sharks probably wouldn’t be trying to trade out of second overall pick and probably wouldn’t want Anderson.

Schaefer has the ceiling of a franchise changing D.

Flames are maybe closer to contending than the Islanders, the islanders should take the chance with the new GM for a rebuild or at least a two year reset.

100% year older- probably better offensively but was he at the same age???

Defensively Schaefer is worlds better. Not even close.
Both players have high ceilings. I do agree Schaefer is better defensively. That being said, people are underestimated the value in actually having a prospect develop well in the year after their draft. Many prospects just stall out.

Crazy to trade all that for a dman that played 17 games this season. Hard no.
Misa, Frondell, or Hagens would be great but they're not guys I would sell the farm on either.

Lots of decent centers with upside in this draft even in the 2nd half of this first round. I could see them packaging both 1sts to get into the top 10 if there's one of these guys available but I just don't think trying to get into the top 5 this year is going to be worth it.

I think you are really underappreciating how close Misa and Schaefer are. Maybe the islanders pick Schaefer first, and the Sharks would too, but the rest of the top 5 would probably take Misa first

Given the draft.
.
This is not a mcdavic year so trading up to top 4 is plausible.

That said, I think this dealcayses cap issues for the Isles.

To trade up you will need to give up something you don't want to give up.
