#1OA Juraj Slafkovsky - Huge Disappointment

I guess that makes Elias Petterson not a 50-pts player as well.
Sure if he had only hit 50 points once but he isn't a 90 point player and I'll assume that you hit the 50 instead of 90 right?

I love that he keeps claiming "stats are stats" and then calls Slafkvosky a "45 point winger."

You would think if you were talking about a player who's only played one complete season in his NHL career, that if "stats were stats" the stats he posted in that one complete season would be a a big part of the argument.

Strangely, they are not. Instead, the "stats are stats" guy thinks the best representation of the statistics of the player who has only played one complete season in the NHL is not the stats he posted in that one complete season.

Gee, I wonder why that is?

I think he is literally on a pace to score 50 points right now.

You think its likely that he slows down his pace and gets worse as the season goes on?
At the time of the post he was just short and around a 45 point pace.

This metric isn't player specific, Hyman isn't a 50 goal guy he is a guy who once scored 59 goals.

If Slaf hits 59 points this year of heck even 49 sure call him a 50 point guy.

You set the rules. Live by them. Petterson isn't a 50 pts player.
Really he has 5 of 6 previous season with 66+ points (the only season less was injured 21 in 26 games)?

Seriously you know better but whatever.

This guy have mentality to be a difference maker.

He have the talent, to be a difference maker.

He have all things to become a difference maker.

He just need to play like he do right now in first half of season next year and he will have a great production.

Everyone speak about Demidov and Hutson, but Slaf aswell can be a very special player.

Hyman is a 59 goal guy

Corey Perry isn't a Hart trophy winner he just won the Hart trophy 1 time.
Jack Eichel isn't a Stanley cup winner he just won the one year.

Absolute semantic nonsense.

Hyman is a 59 goal guy
See to me that would describe a guy who consistently gets or is expected to get 59 goals year in year out if healthy.

Hyman isn't a guy who once cried 59 goals, in reality he is a 30ish goal guy if healthy for all 82 games.
Corey Perry isn't a Hart trophy winner he just won the Hart trophy 1 time.
Jack Eichel isn't a Stanley cup winner he just won the one year.
These are different things as people usually say theses thing with context added.

Also I'm not saying that Salf didn't score 50 points once, you are the one making a false equalivanacy here.

Your second statement was yes but the original point remains and it applies to all players so perhaps being too much of a Homer in all cases might cause to have the last name of Simpson and responses worthy of the name?

It's akin to people after they come home form the Casino saying I won 200 bucks but then come home with nothing.

And if the 59 goal player scored 57 goals the following year you would say they were no longer a 59 goal scorer but a 57 goal scorer. You're being difficult for no other reason than to be difficult, and it adds zero value.

He’ll be fine if you ask me. Way too early to draw any conclusions based on how he’s performed in under two seasons combined, and we’ve seen the development curve of “big guys” pan out like this time and time again before. A better debate to have would be about what his ceiling is or if he’ll flame out and not be in the league at all five years from now. Either way I wouldn’t consider him a “huge disappointment” yet. Not every first overall pick can be McDavid or Crosby.

Wow they really made another thread on Slaf this year?

A 20 y/o on a 50 pts-pace is not a disappointment. Everybody knew at the draft he was not going to be a Bedard/Celebrini prospect.
