Bure, Mogilny, and Federov would have played for Russia. Not too far removed from their world Junior championship gold at that point in their careers.

There would have been some really tough decisions for the Canadian team that's for sure. Ignoring injuries at the time, I would have liked to see something like this for Canada:

Roberts-Lemieux-Neely
Robitaille-Gretzky-Lindros
Hawerchuk-Messier-Yzerman
Sakic-Oates-Fleury
Gilmour (Turgeon? Francis? Muller? Linden? Gartner? Recchi? Shanahan? Brind'amour?)

Bourque-Coffey
Stevens-MacInnis
Blake-Niedermayer
Murphy (there's probably someone better that I missed)

Roy
Belfour
Joseph (Potvin? Fuhr? Ranford?)

Russia would have been sick with Bure, Mogilny, Fedorov, Kovalev, Zhamnov, Larionov, Fetisov, Yashin. All those forwards save Kovalev were within 4 points of ppg! And we all know that several of them were much higher.

Neely Gretzky Lemieux
Messier Yzerman Shanahan
Robitaille Gilmour Recchi
Graves Linden Fleury
Oates/Lindros
**Francis, Sakic, Damphousse would be hard to overlook!

MacInnis Stevens
Bourque Iafrate
Coffey Desjardins
Niedermayer

Roy
Belfour
Joseph

These would be a potential lineup for the squad, though a lot would depend on how the guys were performing right in the early half of the year, which I of course can't remember!

Chelios is American. Recchi and Shanahan both had 100 point seasons that year, I would easily put Shanny in the place of Roberts and I'd find a spot for Recchi, possibly in the place of Fleury. Turgeon was very sick at the time, and Hawerchuk, while still good, was a shadow of his former self. Switch those two. You might put Adam Oates in the place of Gilmour and make Gilmour your 13th forward. Or you could move Messier to Fleury's wing spot, Fleury as 13th forward and Gilmour in a centre spot.

I put Chelios in by mistake because I always think of things in terms of NHL 94 the videogame and if this were NHL 94, I would want Chelios on my team. lol.

I also forgot about Oates somehow.

If we're factoring in health, I believe that Yzerman missed most of that season, and Lindros about 20 games.

True, they both missed games as well. Yzerman played 58 and Lindros 65.

Lemieux only played 22 which is why I felt it was more likely he would not be able to play.

Francis and Brind'Amour would be my replacements for them if they aren't good to play at that point in the season.

Neely would be on my team as well, if health permitted.
