When you remove the narrative tension from athletics (you know the outcome) there is no point in watching further.

Why do I continue watching now? I was just pondering that. It's largely due to the fact that I have been doing this for over 30 years and old habits die hard.

My brain was also programmed at an early age to believe that NHL and Sabres hockey is fun and exciting, even though it is rarely like that these days.
