Canes played very well tonight. Best sustained offensive pressure of the season with some bad luck and against a hot goalie. Was a good game overall and entertaining for a change. Too bad Dobby flubbed that one in an otherwise stellar performance because they deserved the win in regulation. Everyone looked good tonight.

On 99.9 they're talking about how Gleason thrives in a system where he's not asked to do any thinking.

He (and all the defenseman) have been stepping up at the blue line constantly denying zone entries. I think that's the biggest key to the defensive resurgence this season.

Also, I've been saying this for years but ALWAYS send your European players in the shootout. Always.

"they got the win tonight with Khudobin but they probably would've saved a shootout and alot of losses if they always played Cam Ward in goal"

Sometimes I think some of our fans just get amnesia at the end of every season and have some inexplicable draw to follow the team at the start of each new one.

Was at the game. I don't normally go straight for this, but WTF were the refs doing? I noticed at least 4 really blatant interferences that went uncalled, 1-2 holding penalties, as well as a crosscheck against Skinner. Nothing got called. It pisses me off to see other teams constantly body down on Skinner sans puck to prevent him from getting a scoring opportunity. There is no player in the NHL that is stymied from getting a penalty call than Skinner. I'm not talking about getting checked - but he gets a hold or a body without the puck just about once a game and it's never called. Fortunately he hasn't mouthed off to the refs that I have noticed (this season). Am I just crazy?

As for the actual game, the Canes completely dominated most of that one. Wow. Our offense actually generated scoring chances. This was very different than some of our other high shot efforts. Calvin Picard was awesome tonight, very clearly the first star. On our team, I thought Sekera was fabulous. His puck movement is something to behold. He rides the point like, dare I say, Tomas Kaberle circa 2002. With him, Faulk, and our top line out, it's really difficult for the opponent to get a whiff of the puck. Maybe this is overreaction to a month-long stretch, but if I'm Ron Francis I'm giving Sekera what he wants. I'd personally start with 5 years $25 million and negotiate up to $30. I think the money is absolutely worth it. Also Lindholm looked much better tonight, as did Semin. Thought McClement and the 4th line were real solid as well.

Really random, but did anyone else notice some weird sound effect played a couple times during the 1st period on the TV broadcast? It sounded like something straight out of the Flintstones; a car braking and then glass shattering.

No idea why some people got so attached to a top 3 pick when this team was decimated by injuries and hadn't even played half the season yet. For awhile it was looking like they'd ride this **** luck to the bottom, but when healthy, they're not a bad team. They're just not deep. Trading Tlusty isn't going to make much of a difference. I've hardly noticed him with the new re-arranged lines. Moving Sekera makes them worse but I doubt it's be enough, and you can't even count on it to happen. Personally I'm preparing for them to pick in the latter half of the top 10. Anything else including a lottery win would just be extra.

Ryan Murphy giving shoutouts to Charlotte and for their coaching in respect to his defensive development. Said he couldn't identify coverages for awhile. That kinda explains things

I think this is the type of stuff fans miss when questioning why a guy gets sent down or when they state things like "He can't learn anything more in the AHL" (general comment, not necessarily said of Murphy this time). I know a lot of posters were questioning why he got sent down as they thought he wasn't any worse than others on the roster and the Canes needed him for offense.

I was always of the opinion that he wasn't ready and needed more time down there. He looked completely lost in the defensive zone and wasn't efficiently utilizing his team-mates to be effective enough offensively.

I have no idea how Peters and Francis will do long term, but I can say I do like the approach they are taking with the young players on the team and in the system.
