15th Overall, Michael Brandsegg-Nygaard

I do think MBN needs to be slotted with a playmaker type, Jake O’Brien would be a wonderful player to pair him with.
I think he needs someone to cycle with him. They just don't do that as much in Skellefteå. Kasper would be really good with him.

I don't know if Berggren will be around by then, but Berggren-Kasper-MBN would be very good.

I get people's concern but he definitely isn't Ras. His skating and balance is light years ahead of Ras. As someone mentioned above I think his floor is probably a Danny Cleary/ Lapointe (Best Wings Year) kinda 20/20 guy. Obviously as a high pick I want more then that, but I think that is his floor. He is willing to shoot, a great forechecker, has a solid shot, skates well, and has some decent touch.
Just for context, Lapointe was drafted 10th overall, Cleary 13th overall, and MBN 15th overall.

Good call out. Sometimes those mid round guys just don't full realize their junior potential, but that doesn't negate the important roles they played on championship teams.

MBN plays a NA game. Its not a great for the SEL, I'm very curious to see how he does in the AHL. There is a chance he'd have already gotten NHL games had he stayed over. I think 20/20 is a safe bet for him and we hope its more 30/30.

He isn't a Veleno type of player because he has key aspects to his game that he does really well. Veleno never developed any specialties and its why he ultimately got dealt. He was a good but not great skater, had an ok shot, was meh at faceoffs, wasn't really physical or great defensively. He has the tools but not the toolbox. He could still push himself into a Danny Clearyesque career if he just started devoting himself to something.

Which, for everyone that kept asking, is why the Wings gave him that last extension. It was a gamble they could afford, sucks Veleno didn't take advantage of it.

It was really frustrating watching the wings flounder and you have guys like Veleno who could actually go out and try to mix it up, just play low skill, low event hockey. He did really well in a scrap earlier against Corey Perry, he could've tried adding some of that to his game and he would still be here, instead you have guys like him that dont do anything to get momentum back or shake a game up somehow.

MBN at the very least has a shot that can score from a lot of places, and will go try to take someones head off every now and then. Hes had a really disappointing season, but hes also got a shot that if he can just find some space in the NHL, he'll have a role as a forechecker, tough to play aaginst 15-20 goal scorer. He could be a perfect winger opposite Raymond down the line skill wise

MBN is an elite shooting talent and plays a heavier game more naturally than either Veleno and Ras. He doesn’t have the same skating problems Rasmussen had as a draftee, and he’s much smarter than Veleno in all 3 zones.

I think at worst he’ll be a two way, solid, physical 40 point guy. At best? A two way, solid, physical 70 point guy. Inclined to score more goals than set up. Both have their value but we obviously want him to score as much as possible. Danielson is showing some good playmaking chops so maybe a line of DBC/Danielson/MBN would give the opportunity to score more.
I think that guess is a realistic guess. MBN is sort of equivalant to a hillbilly, farmboy, don't think to much kind of forward. He is physical and a work horse. Maybe the closest to an old school Canadian player we have from Norway. He doesn't overthink plays, but also actually understand instruction/takes input from teammates. He will be a good complimentary player who might if everything goes correct and things align could be a first line impact winger. Most likely option is starting 2nd/3rd line with possibility for elevation. Think of a Finnish responsible winger with Canadian mentality.
With the way Marco Kasper is performing, it makes me even more confident about how MBN will do when he's on the Detroit roster.
Could end up being a good fit if he can rotate between Kasper and Danielson on 2nd and 3rd line.

Yes, he needs someone who creates room and understand time and space, MBN will get to the dirty areas and score garbage goals. If he can get a playmaking centre and maybe a more special finishing type, good technical tight space player or similar work horse on the other wing it will be good.

We don't have one in the system

Have you ever worked with a coworker that does as little as possible to keep his job? Then your boss picks him to mentor the new hire, and he goes and explains how to do as little as possible?

Sam Gagner was Joey's mentor, Blash was his first boss.

This is his highlight, crashing the net and not scoring? I get this is an element that we lack but being a first round pick i hope he can put points up as well...
Seriously. We’re excited about a guy who runs opponents but can’t score. Those are two way contract guys.

How about some prospects who can either score or defend? That would be nice.

Maybe he isn't a finished product ? Kasper wasn't lighting the world on fire at times but has been developing nicely at the ripe age of 20.

Every junior and lots of pro leagues are full of guys putting up >1/ppg that won't ever touch NHL ice.

They specifically drafted him because they said he was just about NHL ready.
