The New York Islanders go for a sixth straight win when they host the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night.
The five previous wins have vaulted the Islanders to the top of the Metropolitan Division, where they own sole possession of first place. They've been especially good defensively on their recent run, allowing seven goals over their past five wins.
The Canadiens are off to a better-than-expected start at 7-4-2 this season and have given the Isles fits in the recent past. The Islanders are 3-9-0 against the Habs over that span.
ISLANDERS NOTES:
-- The Islanders have won five straight games, all coming against Metropolitan Division opponents. The Islanders are 6-0-0 against divisional teams to start the season, trying a franchise record set in 1982-83. According to Eric Hornick, it's the first time since November 3-December 15, 2015 that the Isles have won six straight divisional games at any point in a single season.
-- The Islanders lead the Metropolitan Division with 17 points.
--Matt Martin missed Saturday's game with an upper-body injury is considered day-to-day. Ross Johnstontook Martin's place in the lineup on Saturday.
--Josh Bailey is riding an eight-game point streak with 11 points (2G, 9A) over that span.
--Thomas Greiss recorded a 35-save shutout on Saturday and has won three straight starts. Greiss has stopped 102 of 105 shots over his last three starts (97.1 save percentage, 0.98 GAA). Robin Lehnermissed Thursday's game with a strain, but backed up Greiss on Saturday.
CANADIENS NOTES:
-- Max Domi, who was acquired from Arizona for Alex Galchenyuk, leads the Canadiens with 13 points (7G, 6A) in 13 games. Brendan Gallagher leads the team with nine goals.
-- The Canadiens are 3-3-0 in their last six games. Montreal has yet to lose consecutive games this season. They are coming off a 4-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday.
-- Carey Price is 5-3-2 this season. The Canadiens goalie has a 2.59 GAA, a .907 SV% and one shutout this season.
-- The Canadiens are 14th in the NHL with 3.08 goals-per-game this season.
-- Montreal's power play is 26th in the NHL at 14.3%. The Haps penalty kill is 17th at 79.5%.

Antti Niemi
Niemi will start Monday against the Islanders.
Niemi allowed four goals on 42 shots in the Canadiens loss in Buffalo on October 25th. Carey Price has started the last four games, but Niemi will get back in the crease tonight against the Islanders. The veteran netminder has allowed at least three goals in all three of his starts, posting a 3.26 GAA and .898 SV% overall.
Thomas Greiss
Greiss will start Monday vs. the Canadiens.
Greiss stopped all 35 shots that he faced in the Islanders 3-0 shutout win over the Devils on Saturday. Greiss has gone 4-0-0 with an impressive 1.13 GAA, .967 SV% and one shutout in his last three starts and two relief appearances. Tonight he faces a Canadiens teams that has been impressive this season, but has most recently lost three of five.
