With Calgary owning the league's worst record and Ottawa a close second, and Ottawa proceeding to win the lottery and steal the next Golden Boy

Oilers 5 spots too high. And Anaheim, St. Louis, Dallas should be a lot higher.

I'm still not sure we will be beating Calgary this year.

Here are the teams I like out of the west:
8 playoff teams:
Colorado, Minnesota, Chicago, Dallas, St. Louis, San Jose, LA, Anaheim

On the outside looking in:
Nashville, Edmonton, Phoenix, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Calgary

I think Edmonton improves but we'd need to bear down within our division. We're likely adding 4-5 more wins this year but there is too much strength in the central division right now.

Fixed to Ruin's looks better. Though I could see Buffalo a spot down still.

I agree but the last 3 spots are fairly interchangeable imo. I hate Carolina's defense and Eric Staal just has surgery after injuring himself during training. (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/eric-staal-has-surgery-for-core-muscle-injury-1.2721570)

E. Staal is a notorious slow starter so i can't see that injury helping him getting a good start. Like the Oilers last season the Hurricaines can't afford a bad start. Hurricaines might be out of the playoffs by the end of November.

Needing a win in regulation in our final regular season game, at 2-1 with 30 seconds remaining in the third period, a Eberle failed toedrag attempt on an empty net fails and it results in a turnover that ends up in the back of our own net.

Though I'll concede even with that, we are one Taylor Hall or RNH injury from finishing last.

I'm still not sure we will be beating Calgary this year.

I think the OP is on the right track saying that Calgary will be ending this season in the basement.

And personally, I felt like last season started out as an anomaly, which lead into old habits... I believe we'll be progressed from our 2012-2013 rankings which would put us up to atleast 78 points. Calgary is going to get worse before they get better.

Every year in these prediction threads people have the Oilers finishing higher than the Coyotes and every year they finish way ahead of us in the standings.

The only team in the West I'm confident we will have a better record than is Calgary, but I thought the same thing last year.

So let me guess. This thread is more of where posters hope the teams land?

I do not generally participate in these type of threads because pretty much anything can happen over the course of a year. What if Kopitar goes down with a 2 month injury? What if Colorado ***** the bed after having a good year last year..just like before? Hell, what if St. Louis is on it's way to a game in their plane and it gets shot down by Russian rebels? :D

Anyway, I find it too hard to predict until the season is well under way. I hope the Oil makes the playoffs, but I doubt they will.

The Oilers could conceivably finish almost anywhere. They could surprise and finish solidly in a playoff spot or could be bottom 3. I will say one thing, they better not finish below the Flames again of they should just toss in the chips.

Pretty much this.

I have no idea where they will place. Anywhere from a wild card birth to last place in the conference.
