If you had told me at the end of last season that Kakko would be our best two-way forward next season I would have laughed at you. The 180 is remarkable.

I thought last year he was going to be a bust. I just didn’t see how he could turn it around. The conditioning was poor. He wasn’t skating well. He wasn’t particularly strong. His defensive game was awful. He couldn’t shoot. He showed no great hockey sense. I thought he was going to be a dud — maybe a 20-goal player at his best. This kind of turnaround has just left me speechless and happily eating crow.

Yo, the NHL is a hard ass league for a 19 year old. That’s why most 19 year old prospects don’t play in the NHL.
