Andrae clearly wasn't ready last year, no he shouldn't have been playing for a team in PO contention.
Not even sure he's ready this year, check back in 10-20 games.

The move was a reward for the team after trading Walker, pick #108 isn't exactly a premium asset.
And Johnson played well, 15:33 at 5x5%, xGF 54.18%, HDCF 58.02%.

Andrae was perfectly ready. He hasn't drastically changed his game in an offseason.

Reward for the team? How is adding a terrible defenseman a reward? Either way, you're pointing to "going for it" and not "rebuilding."

Johnson was better than Staal and Drysdale. That's about it.

Actually he's stronger, looks it and plays like it.
I'll withhold judgement whether "he's ready" until we see him in extended action.

I think one reason Zamula is struggling is the league watched film, noticed he's a little indecisive and teams now try to press him into mistakes. They adjust, you have to adjust.

If I were coaching against Andrae, I'd tell my forwards to bounce him around and see if he starts panicking in the D-zone. He's undersized, make him show he's got sufficient strength, knows how to use leverage, and is agile enough to evade contact and make the forward pay for being overly aggressive.

Strong is kind of irrelevant.

I'm not worried about Zamula yet. I think we can qualify this as the sophomore slump? Teams have seen him and had time to ponder him. Let's see how he changes going forward...or not, either way we learn
