Prospect Info: #129 Arseny Gritsyuk RW

View attachment 992651

U24 All time KHL stats.

Still dont believe he is on the level with Panarin but still very promising player to have.

Even like half of Panarin would be really good. I look at Dadonov’s first few years back as something that’d be a great outcome for him. Dadonov was a 70 pt guy his first 2 years back in Florida then 55.

What's all this noise about Devils "trying to sign Gritsyuk" and all this noise about Nikishin signing ... with some company?

I thought contracts in the KHL ended 5/31 and there weren't loopholes?

KHL team has the option to void the contract early. In 2019, Nikita Gusev's contract didn't expire until May 1st but he was allowed to sign with Vegas on April 14th. SKA was eliminated from the KHL playoffs on April 9th. If they had advanced, the KHL finals would have started on April 13th.

The KHL playoffs are starting a month later (next week) than they typically had in the past, so the NHL regular season likely would be over unless SKA has an early exit.

I always get confused with ELCs for players like this, but isn't Gritsyuk's contract already going to be a set amount?

I think the first issue would be is he signing his ELC for this NHL season or for next NHL season?

I think Grits has the leverage to sign his ELC contract after the KHL and NHL season end but before the contract year rolls over and get to negotiate a new RFA contract for next season that does not have a maximum.

I don’t think Nichols scenario makes sense; Grits would be worth the max ELC number so it would be incredibly insulting to offer him less. The timing of the ELC would be worth a discussion but even that I think the Devils will have to give in on pretty quickly.

I think it’s more likely he’s playing in the KHL with a KHL contract and wants to finish the season. Why would Grits want to abandon his KHL season for the NHL season right now? I know Nikishin is but that’s not the norm.

I’m skeptical Grits gets more than an ELC with bonuses in the KHL. Does a good but not superstar KLhL player get more than maybe $2 mil US? If he wants a guarantee he plays in the NHL just give him an out to the KHL if he doesn’t stick. But what real leverage does Grits have here? He has one choice. Play in thr NHL for NJ or the KHL.

I don't think Gritsyuk can sign an ELC for this season if the Devils have already stopped playing.

I would guess he does makes more in the KHL next year than playing an ELC deal.

The leverage is that he doesn’t come and the Devils don’t get Grits here because they try to save themselves like $1 million.

If Grits says he won’t come and play on his ELC contract and wants to burn it now, are you comfortable playing chicken with him?

It depends what the alternative might be. For an extra million ok but what’s he asking for as an RFA?

Grits is only making $141,000, he agreed to a salary reduction so they could sign Kuznetsov, he was making $706,000 before that.

"There was an option that Kuznetsov would come to our team,” Gritsyuk explained. “And it turned out that I agreed to a salary reduction. Probably, it is good for the club. And I hope that in a year it will come back to me. Because there are such thoughts that, perhaps, I will leave. And so that everything will work out normally.”

Is that a translation? I don’t understand the end of that quote.

It's a translation, I found the original article run through Google and the last line says "And so that everything turns out well."
I'm still struggling with his quote. It's like two disparate ideas. He took a pay cut and he might leave? But he hopes it turns out well? Not sure what the leaving has to do with the pay cut? Also, if he's making about $750k US an ELC is still more than that.

Google's translation ability for Russian has never been great, it's probably worse than ever now, much like their search function.

if I had to guess what he's saying, more or less, is that things will even out in a way when NHL money starts to come in.

That quote was from last year before the KHL season. He was willing to alter the last year of his contract (which you can't do here) so they could fit his favorite childhood player on the team. He see's it as a good deed and that he'll make up the lost 560k (and then some) when he signs with the Devils.
