I feel detached and disengaged from this loss, like when you die on the ice and float around above your own starfished body feeling' good.

God's country
But the only problem with management's plan and the bench staff's systems and strategies are that for some reason they just can't get these guys to try hard enough. Stricter discipline and more bag skates may encourage this group to grind harder, putting work ahead of the skill of the other teams. It's how it's done at this level and it's their only chance.........to salvage the season, or at least a little respect.....:sarcasm: LOL.

My first game in person this year. A couple of higher level observations that are not news to anyone.

1) A healthy Datsyuk makes Detroit a totally different team. The guy did whatever he wanted last night, and frankly, was the difference in the game. His line owned the Canes. When he is healthy and playing like that, he's one of the top 3 players in the game IMO. The Canes have nobody even close to his skill/ability level.

2) The defense, outside of Faulk and Sekera (and actually Jordan occasionally) can't make a pass to save their lives. It's brutal and is a key reason why this team can't generate much offense. Gleason / Jordan might be a nice bottom pairing if the team could ever get a real top pairing.

3) This team is allergic to getting to the net. The reason we make back-ups look like Vezna winners is because outside of a few players, they refuse to go hard to the net and generate traffic in front of the goalie. Was painfully obvious. They may have outshot Detroit, but a lot of those shots were easy saves for the goalie, although he did make some very good saves also.

4) Outside Skinner, and maybe Faulk on defense, nobody else really looked even remotely dangerous offensively. Skinner had a number of really good chances and Faulk had a few as well.

5) Semin. I know it's piling on, but he looks SOOO slow and disinterested out there, to the point where it stands out. I spent a lot of time watching him even without the puck. Speculation, but it looks to me like he's just checked out.

I know the results aren't there, but honestly, this team looks better than Canes teams in the past. They work harder, their PP looks so much better (more movement, not constantly chasing the puck, etc...), their forwards, for the most part, have much better D-Zone coverage (except on that 3rd goal), their PK is much better, etc.. Unfortunately, they just plain lack talent (and what little talent they have isn't producing) and the defense isn't NHL caliber. They are what we thought they were, so to speak.
