Really looking forward to see this guy in the AHL. I thought for the longest time that he was a winger, and noticed only recently, in the past couple of months, that he is listed as a center.

He was impressive last year at the development camp, and followed that up with a good season.

Savoie was in his +1 season while Lombardi was in his +2 season.

It's not like Lombardi hat more experience because of that. It was Savoie's third WHL season, while Lombardi played his second OHL season. And Lombardi missed all of 2020-21, while Savoie played in USHL.

What are people’s realistic projections for this kid?

I know he was a later pick and has exceeded expectations by quite a bit. Where does he go in a redraft? How does he compare to someone like Matthew Savoie, who is highly touted and was taken in the first round? They are both skill guys, are similar in size, and scored at an almost identical clip this past season.
Lombardi is better, but people aren’t ready to hear that kind of truth.

Out of all the Wings current prospects, he is the one that excites me the most offensively.

I think he has the highest offensive potential of the group but also has a much higher probability of busting than say Danielson or Kasper.

While I agree with your general point, it’s a bit of a stretch to call savoie’s 7 WHL games in d-2 a “whl season”

Would you call 22 games a whl season? Because that's how many he played and had 7 points in them.

Don't know much about him but played a full season in the AHL as a 20-year-old.

More to see in his game?

He’s a small, competitive, speedy player who has a lot of skill and vision on the ice. As with every young player, he has to get stronger but I think as the year went on you started to see more and more flashes. He said in interviews that his confidence and comfort got better at the end of the year.

I could be wrong, but I’m a believer in this kid. I’m expecting him to breakout this upcoming season.

He was a big point producer in Flint, hitting 102 points in 2022-23. The big question is whether the offense can materialize in the AHL? I've kind of hope he could become a poor man's Brayden Point. He's a much better skater than Point, but Point had very consistent offensive production in the WHL which Lombardi cannot match. Point also made a very good Lightning roster as a 20 year old and I'd be shocked if Lombardi made Detroit's roster this year as a 21 year old. So while I don't see 90 point seasons in his future, I do think he can be a skilled 3rd line center capable of 45ish points.

I really see his future out on the wing, what I do like is he plays fast and pushes the play. He has very good playmaking instincts in my opinion. He needs a lot of work to stay in the middle though and he doesn't seem to be our cup of tea in terms of what we have wanted down the middle to date.

I can see him breaking out, being top 3 in scoring for GR.

Maybe even a couple games in the show because of injuries.

Yeah this is a huge off season for him, curious to see if he makes the physical gains this summer to really take that next step into a top 6 role in GR. Without Hirose and Berggy he'll definitely have a solid opportunity to step into that top 6 winger role. I can't see him beating Kasper/Danielson/ AHL vet for the top 6 center roles, but I also see him more as a winger than center at the NHL level.

GR had him listed as 175 last season it would be great to see him come to camp in the 182-185 range.

The next year is important every year for every prospect, not just Lombardi. I'm thinking two-plus years for him to make an impression. There's no clear path for him at C, with potentially three centers ahead of him in GR (including Dries) but also no real hurry. There is probably a better route available on the wing, where there is only one legitimate prospect (two if that's where MBN goes) and a few curiosities, but that's going to take some time for adjustment as well as needed physical development regardless of position. It would help him if he could turn into a top-notch PK guy.

He showed a lot of flashes. Definitely potential but needs a big step this year imo.
I thought he was going to be really good last year, and the physical play and speed (even though he's relatively fast) was a bit much for him. I wouldn't be surprised if he struggled again this year because like you said, last year he showed some flashes but never was consistent.

I make fun of Marco Kasper but he made huge strides all year, at the end almost month to month, consistently improving compared to how Lombardi developed which was pretty stagnate all year.

Lombardi seems definitely like a typical late-bloomer, who does need seasoning to build physics and adjust on the next level of quality of competition. (juniors --> AHL)

Guy is 21 now, he has plenty of time to develop at GR.

It's good to see those flashes, he will be boom or bust. Nothing between the middle.
