Prospect Info: #110 LD Daniil Orlov, Sakhalinskiye MHL

Is this really necessary? It’s contract driven, not ethnicity driven. They also are playing in a league superior to any other than NHL, so why develop in AHL ?
My bad.

He plays in the KHL. It will be at least 5 years.

Bardakov is going to NHL after 4 years of his draft, Sharangovich took 2-3 years of development in AHL and KHL(both were overagers on their drafts), Shakir played 3 years in KHL and played 1.5 seasons in AHL. Other teams are managing their Russian prospects differently but different teams have different success with development of Russian players.

So if we are talking about how it have to go in real life outside that I believe Devils have a good LD cote of NHL players and prospects, so as they were agree with giving Gritsyuk all the time for his development they should be ready to not hurry Orlov with his developing trajectory. They don't have hard need in him and I think they will be happy to see his development and trade him for some need(I hope this time it will be better trade than Bardakov's). If they want to try to use him in the roster - they have Luke, Siegs, Dillon, Vilen, Edwards, Silayev to not worry about him at all until both sides will agree to make it happen. I would not be surprised if he will travel this summer or after the next three more seasons. If he will develop more - its a luxury you want to see from your late round pick. For now for his age Orlov is doing well.

Any chance you can talk him into playing tomorrow night for NJ?

I have no connections with Spartak. I have connection with SKA, and some connections with Dynamo Moscow and Dynamo Minsk. I'm equipping a carrier pigeon for a flight, we'll count on luck.

To add some specifics, Orlov said last year that he was in constant contact with agents from New Jersey, and that they were waiting for him. Anything can happen, including trades, but on the whole Devils are very happy with him. This year, there was a rumor that the Devils would try to bring Orlov in early. Orlov himself is a big fan of Kovalchuk (they are both from the Spartak system, among other things) and Fetisov - he was very pleased that New Jersey chose him.

Hopefully he continues to develop and can come to NJ. There will be an opening in a couple of years when Dillon’s contract ends. I anticipate Silayev taking over for Siegs when his deal ends with a year as the seventh defender prior to that.

Isn’t the most obvious choice for him to come after his contract is up in 2025-26?

I’m kind of surprised that there was a rumor of him coming early, unless he was unhappy on his current team. He has to be the one to pay for his KHL buyout, not sure how that would make financial sense for him.

For me, this is a difficult future to predict. The Devils are still waiting for deals on the marke - they will certainly try to trade Quinn, they will certainly try to trade the forward in the top 6. The goaltending position doesn't look solved for years to come at all. The devils may try to change a starter on trade market - I dont see options on free agent market. It is very difficult to predict whether these trade will take place and who will be involved in them. It is difficult to predict how long Dillon will be a defender of the foundation, just like Siegenthaler - Dillon because of his age, Siegenthaler because of his health. May be Devils will make a trade for Quinn and Van will ask Siegs, may be he will be involved in trade for forward(if Silayev is ready for example).

So I dont know. Defensive group looks good for now. And for near future. If Devils wil have a good offer from the market for our current defenseman and they will need to make a cheap replacement - good to have an option in Orlov. If they will have a good offer from the market with Orlov as a part of the deal as a good prospect with potential - good to have Orlov.

For the first look - of course. But if Silayev will join our team in the same summer? We will have no room for Orlov - only AHL. AHL isnt the good place for him. He is playing solid role in Spartak. If Devils dont need him in near future - he can sign another 1-2 year deal. Its speculation only. I believe with having regular contact both sides should understand what they are waiting and what they are thinking.

It was a rumor that "Devils is waiting\trying\asking to take him early", not "he is coming early". Again, it was just a rumor.

In the 7 games series(2nd round) against Salavat he played second pair minutes, 1g, 2a, 3p, he has +7 and -4 (+3 overall), 14 shots, played as in PP as in PK.
In the first round he was second pair PK defenseman.

So I think Spartak has trust in him and from everything I heard fans are happy with how Orlov is playing. So I dont think that Orlov will leave Moscow now. Moscow is quite nice city to live and Spartak is playing against much harder competition in meaningful games. I think Orlov will play at least one year and will try to learn more in more friendly environment. After that - will see. As I said - I believe situation will dictate how it will go.

Yup with both Orlov and Silayev up in 2026 I figured they'll bring Silayev over first. Most high pick D end up breaking into the league at like 20 and Silayev will be 20 then. Orlov signs another 2 years then comes over in 2028. Siegs deal is also up in 2028. It'd be ideal if both Orlov and Silayev were really good by then and you can part ways with Siegs at that point

Ever since Dillon was signed my hope was he's moved summer 2026 after his protections downgrade to only a 10 team no trade. 4 mil for Dillon is already rough and we'd be in better shape if we didn't have him next year and could keep Dumo instead. Let alone next year when he'll be 35 and the following when he'll be 36. Dillon out next summer and Silayev in would be nice. Save 3 mil and wouldn't be surprising if it's an upgrade personnel wise as well. Luke-Siegs-Silayev left side for 26-27 looks good to me. Fingers crossed Quinn would become available that summer and you can add him to that left side and slide Luke over to the right. Then hopefully 2028 you have a 22 year old Siegs and bring over a fully formed 24 year old Orlov for an ELC year allowing you to let Siegs walk

Looks like a plan. We have Vilen and Edwards too as potential protection if something will go wrong, or for trades.
But to rise some stocks for trades all of them should take a look in nhl.

I have a good massage for you, Devils fans.
Today Orlov is playing in the VHL(Russian analog of AHL) play off game as a third line center(at least on paper).
So it looks like Nico could be free.
was that really him lol thats wild, would never have guessed. i didnt pay close enough attention to really comment on anything but from what i remember he did actually play as a C, wasnt just on paper. took draws, posted up outside the net, etc. thought he was just a super defensively leaning forward lol

Yeah, my minions are saying he was on the dot, played full C role.
The funny thing is he could be the best or second best center prospect of Devils team.
