Be honest, how many people here would say that he’s making a case to be a legit 2C if his stat sheet said 7 points instead of 13 (all else being equal)?

even with 13 points there aren't many people that are arguing he's a legit 2C...is there anyone that doesn't want to see Mika/Chytil as the top 2? I think most people have him moving to RW when mika returns...

but also seems to me that there should be some middle ground between future 2C and overrated fluke where you can be happy with his play

It’s not, but Strome is also not as good defensively as 2/3Cs usually are, so he would have to make up for it offensively.

Where did you gather that from? He is good defensively, plays the pk, great on faceoffs, plays pp and has a bit of grit to his game, can play wing or center all while getting a point a game. If Hayes was doing the same thing people would be looking for the Hart in NY. Unreal.

Except that Hayes has a much, much, much larger sample size, showing that he is more consistent. And he doesn’t need elite players to produce. And his shooting percentage isn’t unsustainable.

Playing on the PK and winning faceoffs doesn’t mean you’re good defensively. I’m merely pointing out the overreactions on here. A couple days ago, I couldn’t find one positive post about Strome. Now he’s a 2C? Look, I would love it if Strome could become a legit 2C and make the Spooner trade look that much better. But I’m not convinced yet. But I’m also not saying he’s bad. He played well tonight. There’s a middle ground between “he’s a legit 2C” and “f*** off, Strome.”

Strome has had a few games in the past where he was invisble and yet ended up with a point or two on the score sheet. Tonight was not one of them. Exceptional game by him.

Fox and ADA are outstanding, but I think a small thing that might be getting lost is that Trouba seems to be struggling the past couple weeks.

Henrik - what else is there to say. Hopefully tonight will shut some people up who think he can't still be a top goalie in the league. He will post amazing numbers if he doesn't face 10+ HDCA per game. Even today he had to make some exceptional saves, but overall the team did a good job of cleaning up second chances and rebounds.

McKegg was quietly fantastic, I'm really happy he got rewarded with the goal. Watching him play made me sad that this team thinks playing Haley & Smith over him is the right choice. (all credit to Smith, he's played his ass off - but he's still not a good 4th line forward)

Production, not play. He’s had some good games, but he’s had too many bad games as well. Also, I didn’t see anyone come to Strome’s defense when he had bad moments/plays/games. But now that he has a good game, everyone thinks he’s a 2C?

I have always said that he was a solid bottom 6, 3C type guy. My point has always been I do not understand why he gets sh!t on by some posters on this board even though he has been quite productive since he has been a Ranger. He has stepped up when this team has needed him.

Yea and like I said before, I find the constant “Strome sucks” comments after one bad play ridiculous. He’s either the whipping boy that needs to get lost or he’s a 2C according to hfboards. It all depends on the day.

Man Ryan Strome having more good games than bad that’s for sure and that’s all we can ask. I was thinking best we could get for him would be a third if we fell out of it by the TDL but we could surely ask for more

4 pages of arguing about Ryan Strome. Cool

Glad we won this one but this was one of those cases of the other team being worse than we were, goaltending included. Watching us try to get out of our zone cleanly made my eyes bleed, and Brady Skjei was absolutely garbage. The amount of times this dude ripped it high and hard off the glass for an icing was honestly sad. He can't skate the puck out and can't make an outlet pass. He's going to be one of the biggest problems for this team moving forward and the sample size of him being garbage has gone on way too long now for me to believe this isn't just what he is at this point. Which really sucks for the future of this team.

Also, Trouba with another pretty bad game. He's definitely in a little bit of a funk, needs to get back to how he was playing the first 8/9 games

Was just able to watch the game.

The great: Henrik, DeAngelo, Buch
The good: Panarin, Kakko, Chytil, Fox, Lemieux, McKegg
The bad: Hajek, Staal
The ugly: Trouba

Hayes also older than Strome, amazingly.

A win is a win! I’m very happy I’m not a Detroit fan. That team is in BRUTAL shape right now.

This post game thread is BRUTAL. It’s 3 plus pages arguing about Ryan Strome. Don't we have player discussion pages designed specifically for this?

Ok fine, but that’s not the point. Suddenly, everyone on these boards thinks Strome is a 2C? That’s almost as bad as everyone wanting to behead Strome for one bad play earlier in the season.

Everyone on these boards also thinks Kreider is a first line winger, but his numbers say otherwise.

Man the right side of our D is terrific.

Just need Miller and Robertson to step right in on the left side and we’re golden.

I know we are still stuck with Staal for the moment, but it sure is nice to ice a D-core that doesn't have Clendening, Kampher, or a Holden in it every night. There is nobody (except for Staal) who is palying just because we don't have any better options.

Pay your super stars, your centers and your righty Dmen. Those are the hardest things to find in this league.

People want to write off Strome because he didn’t fit the long term plan in our heads. But he’s Mika’s age. He’s coming into his own just like Mika has at the same age. Heck we saw brassard do it too. This guy has top 5 draft pedigree. This isn’t out of nowhere. I think he’s a 3C ideally behind Mika and Chytil. I’ve always had Howden as a 3 or 4C long term so I have no problem with him playing 4th line mins.

the thing scaring people is overpaying Strome. But I tend to think he’d take less to stay here. He’s seen his career bounce around. I think he wants to make his mark here.

with Mika back:

Panarin Zibanejad Kakko
Kreider Chytil Buchnevich
Lemieux Strome Fast
Smith Howden Lias

Please make it stop! Skjei isn't anywhere near as bad as you are making him out to be. Of course he makes some mistakes, so does EVERYONE. Tony D and Fox are beloved on this board, myself included, but they make defensive gaffes every game. Point is that every player has their strengths and weaknesses. Skjei's weaknesses aren't nearly as bad as many here state.
Take a look around the league's second pairing D. How many teams would love to have Skjei on their second pair? Lots!

If thats the way it falls, i think we are golden. Still want to grab a high-potential C with the 1st rounder this year, though.
