Neck stablization in this type of context is usually associated with something like a concussion.

The video showed the puck going into his throat, so I'm figuring that the trainer was trying to keep him in a position to still be able to breathe.

looks like the clavicle area more than the neck, apparently finished his shift and then feinted on the bench. Perhaps something lower than the trachea got hurt.
