Didn't the Rangers just have an electrifying playoff run last year?
Only 17,200 or so tonight out of 18,006. And it's not the first non-sellout of this young season, either.

No Mets or Yankees in the World Series this year to deflect attention. But yes, the Jets and Giants are good this year.

They have had trouble selling out for several years now.

In fairnesss, the Knicks have also failed to sell out at times over recent years, at 19,873 seats, but do get many full houses nonetheless.

Most Knicks games this young season have sold out, but one or two had 18,000.

Yes, yes, it's a Tuesday and against the World Series...but the Brooklyn Nets, af 2-5 or so, now 2-6 (?), sold out 17,700 vs. Chicago tonight, and sell out most games (only 15,000+ there last game.)

Why can't the Rangers sell out, esp. considering last year's success?

I know, I know, many will ask why am I even worrying about it?

Oh, and how many no-shows, if like some or all arenas for most regular season games?

So....

Rangers have had a 99% capacity this season so far. On average 17,821 seats are sold out of 18,006.

Was this just a poor troll attempt?

You know tickets sold and fans attending the game are two different things, right? Most of the tickets are owned by season ticket holders and companies anyway. Show up to a game during the week it's guys in their business atire and with some empty seats. I'm sure you would know that already though.

Yes, you should let the OP know that.

It's amazing how many NHL franchises can't sellout consistently anymore.

None of the canadian teams sellout.

Detroit, Chicago, & NY don't sellout. Boston announces "Sellouts." Yet, a view of the arena shows anything but a full house.

Pittsburgh fans have abandoned the team.

Flyers are a very distant 4th in their own city. Getting 14k at games.

Things are bleak for the league.

Inflation makes it really difficult.

For example, a Canucks game with 3-4 beers pre-pandemic cost me about $100-$130 for a night out for nosebleed seats. Now your looking at nearly $200 for the same package.

I also think people prioritize their time differently now than they did before for pandemic.

Even as a diehard fan, there are other things we can do with that money and still enjoy a game.. I guess just not as a Canucks fan

Tickets cost three digits to sit in the 400's.

I would be at MSG every week if they were priced more like Islanders, or say the Yankees/Mets, but it's just not worth it to me.

That building is expensive.

Yeah. That would've been my guess for what's going on there. Don't think it's really hurting the Rangers too badly though, if they're selling most of the building at those sort of prices, as a bit of an "exclusive experience" at a premium price, they're clearly still making their money and doing just fine financially as an organization. Can afford to sell a few less tickets if it means you're raking in more $$$ on the ones you do sell. From what i understand, they have some insanely expensive seats/boxes that are probably driving their financial bottom line pretty well all by themselves.

Just a sort of different pricing model than "sell every ticket at all costs". Especially when you're New York City and there's always a thousand different other entertainment options going on.

It's also why Rangers fans just wait for Islanders + Devils games, I go to MSG once a year as a Devils fan and I always regret it most times because the Devils usually get smoked ( ) + I can probably go to 5-6 Devils home games at Prudential than 1 MSG game

It’s almost as if people stopped going out as much.

NHL revenue increased to 5.2 billion last year.

Yea they should definitely fold the tents.

We’re in a recession, inflation is through the roof, and tickets are outrageously expensive. Toss on $40 for parking, $10 for a beer, $7 for a hot dog…and that’s just for one person.
15 for a beer, 10 for a dog, but the point stands

cheapest seat on ticketmaster through the rangers website for tomorrows game is 101 dollars. good luck taking ur family out for a game at those prices. pretty much only rich ppl and single ppl with good jobs can afford to go to a game these days.
It's ridiculous. I was eyeballing the upcoming Coyotes game. I figure -no offense- it's the Coyotes. Not a great team, not a lot of fans in New York, the demand will be lower.

They want $87.50 to sit in section 415.

I could if I wanted to. I'm not rich, but I have a solid job. I have no issue at all going to a hockey game by myself and grabbing a dollar slice after the game. That's fine.

But like...I could do ten other things too. This is not a city where the Rangers have a monopoly on entertainment.

For $87.50, I could go to two concerts on the floor. I could save that $87.50 and sit in like the 5th row the next time AEW comes to town.

Even then, there is opportunity cost. It’s a rare treat for me to go to a Rangers game. I go maybe 1-3 times per year including playoffs and follow them on TV for the other games.

I’d love to go to more. I’m a very loyal fan. If the tickets were cheaper, I’d be there.
