Hats off to the Maple Leafs for this powerful promo. Toronto has been irrelevant for the past 50 years but like a baseball club in Chicago that might soon change.

That's terrific

Everybody should read about Harold Ballard. Everybody rags on Jacobs, especially pre-cap, but Ballard was one of a kind. During a concert, he ordered staff to crank up the heat in the building, turn off the water fountains, and only sell large drinks. He also owned the Hamilton Tiger Cats (CFL) for a period of time and had their logo on the ice at Maple Leaf Gardens. Could you imagine watching a Bruins game and seeing a NY Jets logo on the ice? There are a million stories. He was a despicable man.

Oh man! Please don't. I'm a huge OSU fan (my mom's side is from there) and I figured there's 82 hockey games and only 12 college football games. Plus, I'm way more likely to hear the OSU score than the B's score. So I'll catch the first period, jump over to ABC for the OSU game, watch the B's during halftime and then finish it afterwards.

Absolutely brilliant touch

“What we tried to do in this spot is really look at the last 100 years and be authentic about it. So there’s some celebration spots in there, but then, because there were some years that were tough on Leafs Nation, we just want to acknowledge that. We tried to do that.â€

Hence the TV going out the window.

In the ad, the set that hurtles through glass toward the pavement below is cleverly broadcasting a game where beloved former Leafs captain Darryl Sittler is in a Philadelphia Flyers uniform, one particularly ugly reminder of the franchise’s mismanagement during the 1980s under owner Harold Ballard.

The ad ends with a series of snapshots from the current Leafs team, including one of coach Mike Babcock.

“I am jealous, said the wise man,†Canadian actor John Ralston intones in a voice-over. “I am jealous of what you will stand witness to in your lifetime.â€

Leafs president Brendan Shanahan was closely involved with the Stand Witness project, as was the case with the team’s new logo, approving the idea of a sombre reflection on the franchise’s past with a nod to the future.

“Brendan is always a part of everything that we’re doing,†Hosford said. “That’s very important to him and the front office that we’re representing their vision properly. He has seen every part of this.â€

This is the book to read on Ballard

The kicker is after he went to jail the NHL took him back when he was released.

They better win, not easy being a Bruin fan in the Leaf nation area. I play pick up hockey Sunday morning and they all know I am a Bruin fan. Hoping Carlo shuts down Matthews so I can bring up his name. Kid is completely unkown in the hockey world and just put up a plus 5 and one pt. Keep up the good work Sid Marchand. No doubt the angry hobbit glen healy shows a montage of Marchand 5 years ago, like he always does to continue the Anti Bruin mantra

I thought Healy got canned in the summer?

I am convinced that the lottery was fixed so Edmonton would not get another #1.

If that draft was fixed, Arizona would have won the lottery. Toronto needs no help selling tickets.

CBC is apparently carrying the ceremonies beginning at 6:00 pm

Dom - It is the TV ratings in the Golden Horseshoe that is far more important to the NHL than ticket sales. The Rogers contract has to have a good Toronto team to work or they lose millions.

Okay...then why didn't we get McDavid?

The lottery was not rigged. The moment McDavid went to the Oilers, all my conspiracy theories about the NHL were debunked.

If I call you, can you put me on speaker phone?

I haven't decided yet whether to DVR this and the game and head to Owen Sound to watch if Greg Meireles #2017NHLDraft is as real as he appears to be so far.

If NHLN isn't showing the ceremony, that would just show more NHL incompetence. If there's anything that could draw a casual hockey fan in, it's the history of the sport.

Hell, in 2024, I'll be in my seat at TD-Cialis Garden 2 hours early for opening day, when newly-minted Boston Bruins captain Tyler Seguin raises two banners: Bergeron's jersey number, and the 2023-4 Stanley Cup banner.

Anyone happen to know what NBCSN was planning on showing instead of this game? Another hockey game? Car auctions? I think it makes sense for them to pick up this game, but kind of idiotic for them to say that it was "only" because of Auston Matthews. There's the Matthews/Marchand mini-points race, the original 6 rivalry, and, of course, the 100 years of Leafs.

If they get another #1 in 2017 that means Bs pick is first in round #2!

I know what you're going for here (Oilers winning lottery ahead of Bruins who finish the season dead last), but with the new draft lottery system (assuming they're sticking with it/a similar one), Bruins could finish like 13th overall in points and still get 2nd (or even 1st) overall as long as East is good enough that the B's finish 9th or worse in the conference.

Was just checking out the P Bruins box score and low and behold our old buddy Bartkowski got an assist.

Didn't even know he was back.

Colour me surprised.
