Crazy thought...anyone think it's possible that having too much information or pregame prep might be responsible for this?

What I mean is, all teams and players have a 'book' on goalies. They know tendencies and weaknesses, etc. Tossing in the backup who is more of an unknown factor might mess up players' preparation a wee bit?

Seems to happen league-wide where teams make backups look amazing.

I'm sure there is some truth to this. The same thing happens in baseball when a hitter isn't familiar with a pitcher.
