Why does Boyle always go to his off-hand on every shorthanded chance?

Easier to protect the puck because it puts an additional foot and a half between the defender and the puck, but that's assuming he can get the inside lane on the defender, which he cannot. Also gives him the benefit of driving across the net on his forehand.
