Maltsev with Hughes? I know Maltsev has been very good in his limited NHL time but the thing that's going to limit his NHL upside is offense - he doesn't have it. Like any good bottom-line NHLer, his instinct is to shoot the puck when he has it near a scoring area, and that's how he's operated so far. It's gotten him a goal on a very low-percentage shot but throughout his career he's shown limited offense at every level and I don't see much reason to think of him playing with a skilled guy like Hughes.

The line is going to live and die with Bratt and Hughes and last night those guys did not have it.

Do you know whom else should be put with Hughes and Bratt then?

I mean...the ones we WANT to be here aren't NHL-Ready yet (Holtz, Mercer, etc.) so we have to make do with who is on the ice, taxi squad, and so forth.

how many games do you think they'll win this year with that offensive performance? 39 shot attempts at 5 on 5 is a putrid amount.

we're all happy with the win and the defensive performance but the offense is still MIA.

The offense will get better after the defense gets better. We were "generating chances" but pretty bad ones in the other games - because everything was chaos and the only chances generated were on individual efforts - all stretch passes or Hughes skating in circles or Wood busting up the wing.

More chances will come if we aren't spending all of our time scrambling around in our own zone.

Let’s simplify - by pronouncing it “eee” the Boston announcer is pronouncing it correctly I believe. Kul - eee- kov. Instead of Kul - ick - kov as we tend to hear it.

Anyway that’s how my Russian speakers say it. They make the middle vowel eeek and not ick.

End of me chasing into these weeds anyway.
I am actually really enjoying the fact that we can even argue over vowels here! I find that incredibly awesome.

And I would like to know what is proper also.

I'm also going to add that I'm a very patient fan. The one time I've cursed at the television this season watching the Devils was the play where Marchand cross-checks Ty Smith in the head and Johnsson -- a supposed veteran presence -- just stands there watching his young star defenseman get cheap-shotted by aa player smaller than he is, and does nothing.

So, even after the win, I was fuming. First off, the NHL needs to stop giving Marchand -- a repeat and repeat and repeat offender -- a pass on his incessant attempts to injure opponents. No penalty on the play is utterly ridiculous. It should have been a 5 minute major and a three game suspension in my mind. To me, this was far worse than Tom Wilson's hit on Brandon Carlo which got him a 7 game ban, and Marchand is a dirtier player than even Wilson.

Second of all, if I'm Lindy Ruff I'm getting up in Johnsson's grill and telling him that -- if he wants to be an NHL player (and he has not performed like one in two seasons) -- part of being on a hockey team is standing up for your teammates. Especially a young star like Ty Smith. There's no way on earth Johnsson should be in the lineup for Tuesday night's game vs. Washington.

Okay, I feel better now that I've vented. Thanks, guys.
I noticed the same thing as well. Someone needs to do something there. Devils are too easy to play against.

I don't have a like button so I will give it a thumbs up instead :) :thumbu:

Yeah, done with Johnsson after that play. I know I'm showing my boomer here, but you CANNOT let stuff like that go unanswered. Same with the crosscheck to the throat on Hughes earlier this season that drew no response. Next time we play Boston, Subban, Wood, or Bastian needs to take a run at Marchand.

I think you need to ask your russian speakers again. The way you’d space it is Ku - li - kov. Cangi has it right, even if americanized. There’s a pronounciation at elite prospects if you have an account (free will do): Dmitri Kulikov at eliteprospects.com

Edit: Jim beat me to it...

Yeah, if I'm Ruff I don't play Johnsson for the next couple of weeks at the very least. It's not like he's any help on the ice, anyway. I don't get him -- medium talent, low hockey IQ, low compete level. If I'm Fitzgerald, I drop him to the AHL, it's not like anyone would take that awful contract even if he hit waivers. And the NHL really needs to step up and do something about Marchand before he ends someone's career, but if they won't I think we should sign John Scott to a one-game contract for the next time we play Boston.

Aren't you both saying the same thing? Aren't you both saying long i

No thats ”L”and ”i” that I wrote. So short i, emphasis more on the L (if there is emphasis at all). Three short syllables, KU, LI (short like in ”listen”), KOV. That’s the best I can explain it, your video is spot on.

Yeah, you have to go at Marchand, that way you can put the 31st-rated PK on the ice.

Marchand has been doing this stuff for his whole career, do you honestly think that Johnsson or anyone else 'going after him' is going to stop him or dissuade him in any way?

That said, yeah, make the effort, but don't take a penalty doing it.

You don't have to throw punches, just wrap him up, lets the refs know that he got away with something, and gives the league a reason to take a look. It would look silly for the refs or the league to do anything now since Johnsson was looking right at Marchand when he did this and just stood there.

No one has hurt him for it before.

Edwards was saying Koo-lee-kov and saying it so slow it sounded like there were pauses in his name, at least when I was watching that shit feed.

To me it sounded almost as if he was saying Koo-yee-kov. The part they all pronounce wrong is the last syllabe, it's a closed "o", like in go.

This right here is a big part of why the team is not as effective as they were early in the season. They have to be thinking to some degree about how putrid the pk is and how much a penalty hurts them.

"dont worry about my cap"

Casey Casem rerun of the Top 40 from the summer of 2014. Our next long distance dedication comes to us from a 32 year old fan from New Brunswick NJ. He writes, "Dear Casey, I want to dedicate this song to the girl I met in the parking lot of Meadowlands arena in June of 1995 when we celebrated our favorite team winning the Stanley Cup. We didn't know each other before that day, but fate put us next to each other and when she wanted Mike Peluso's autograph but didn't have a pen, I reached in my back pocket and handed her my black sharpie. She turned and smiled and as our eyes locked... something special began. So this song is dedicated to my wife Pam who I met on what I thought was the greatest day of my life, but ended up being 2nd place to the day she said yes. Signed, Mike."

Ok Mike, this one's for you and Pam - here's Phillip Phillips with Raging Fire at number 5 on Casey's top 40.
