He's not a $4M 2nd liner. Jamie Benn just got signed for only a little over a million more. I'd give them 3 drew staffords for one jamie benn.

He's an above-average 2nd line forward. If you really wanna have this debate, start the thread and I'll happily oblige.

Jamie Benn's contract only bought one year of UFA. But of course you already knew that, because you know everything.

Staff looks sloppy and why is Hecht on the ice?

We got Staff, because Darcy wouldn't throw in a 4th rounder for Horton, and Hecht is on the ice because of butterfly photographs or something.

We don't need a thread, so you're saying Drew Stafford is a 1b forward? Ya that is true, but only for about 10 games a year. Has he even been a 2b any game yet this season? Other than take a punch to the chin, he's been about useless. Def not playing like a $4m guy.

He's better then anyone the Sabres have.

Stafford looked like garbage at the end, he had the puck 1 foot in front of him and he lazily and lethargically went after it.This team needs a roster move to shake it up, for some reason the UFA signing of star center Jochen Hecht hasn't worked out for some reason :sarcasm:

Pegula needs to get a brain and some guts and purge this team of the black hole that Ruff and Regier are.Until Pegula get's over his stubborn fanboy thought process and fire the 2 clowns he will always be a meddling second rate owner, no matter how many millions he misspends by placing it in the hands of Regier.Pegula's whole speech was baloney, if he was serious about winning a cup in 3 years and then "You know what, after we win one we will do it again" then he would fire the failure of the last 16 years and bring in a legit premier coach.

Like who? But yes, I agree we need a new coach.

You should start a seperate thread. This is the GDT. The talk should be relevant to the game. If you want to debate your specific points and issues about Stafford then start a thread for it.

Now Hecht is soft?

Whatever...the idiot crew in here reminds me why I stopped posting.....everything's Ruff's fault, any flaws of any new player is clearly because of Ruff's coaching. It's absurd.

But carry on with your witch hunt. If you think another coach could turn this roster into a contender, I have a bridge to sell you in the middle of the Sahara. This was always going to be a rebuilding year.

Right, we should give him his 16th different roster to fail with.

If you change the words around in a sentence, you'll get a different meaning. "IS A LINK TO OUR OLD, SOFT CORE". That doesn't translate to "IS SOFT".

So you don't assign blame to anyone? These guys have been running the team for 20 years, and they're in a "rebuilding year"? Look, I know I lay the sarcasm on, but it's to be funny. You're just plain in denial.

Gotcha, sorry. I'll move to the GBU then.

I blame having a young team - particularly at forward - not to mention missing our best offensive player. With Vanek in and OV out, the score probably is switched around.

And for the record, I'm not gung ho about keeping Ruff. Simply that the stuff he gets constantly blamed for is laughably pathetic from the usual suspects.

In his defence, if we scored it would have been the ultimate burn on the capitals...

If Foligno scored being the only Sabre within 40 feet of the net with 3 seconds left would have been the biggest burn in recorded history. If my counting is correct(haha), this is the 3rd time Ruff has had us short handed.

Why not work the puck down low and lean on the defense? It's a shortened seasoned, possess the puck and wear the opposing teams down. Does Ruff and Co. see the personnel ill-fit to play that style of hockey? I'm at a loss as to what they're trying to do here.

Also, what happened to the 'physical' brand of hockey that was promised? It seems it's been abandoned after game 2.

Blaming Ruff for the timekeepers error in the Toronto game is asinine.

I'll admit, I'm not an expert on that situation, and I've seen too many contradictory posts to make sense of it, but it seems it was up to him to get a guy off the bench(not get a guy from the box). Not sure if he was supposed to be cued to do so or not, but in any event, he could have had a better handle on the situation. if I knew they were shorting me a player, I'd just send one out.

I'm not a chronic blame-Ruff guy, but putting Gerbe on the top line was a complete bonehead decision. You can't argue with that.

You can't replace a guy from the box with a guy on the bench. Manpower can only be increased by a guy coming out of the penalty box.

There's actually a rule where you don't have to put a guy in the box for a bench minor (or to serve an ejected player's major), but if there's not a guy in the box when the time expires, tough crap, you don't get to return to full strength until a whistle.

Considering Gerbe got less even strength time than everybody not on the 4th line, that expirement didn't last long. That said, I'm not sure we have a 2nd line left winger without Vanek, let alone a top line LW.
