So, in other words, Tortorella is making Kreider a better player.

No, Julian refused to play Seguin.

If it wasn't for injuries during the playoffs for Boston, Seguin would have never gotten his chance. As it played out, Seguin was a beast for them. To the point, Julian couldn't deny him.

Defense is important but Torts goes overboard with it. If you have offensive talent but you make one defensive mistake you are benched so gusy seems afraid to mess up. Kreider wants to help the team but he knows he has a coach that doesnt cut him any slack like other guys

Kreider has looked very tentative, I suspect he's trying to please Torts so he doesn't get benched/sent to Hartford. He hasn't yet learned to play in a grind-it-out style. He showed us his talent last year, though, they need to find a place for him and maybe let him work through some mistakes and get his confidence back. The one goal he scored this year was gorgeous.

Remember how this thread last spring was speculating on "would he score 30 this year"? Not too likely now.

Not really, Julian refused to play Seguin.

Seguin wasn't a good enough NHLer to play more than he was, despite his talent level. However, the year spent playing 12 minutes a night in the NHL was far more valuable to his development than being sent back to juniors. Without that year, Seguin doesn't end up leading the team in points the next season.

Miller might make mistakes, but he's looked basically the same one shift to the next. Kreider has not. That's why Miller stays and Kreider doesn't. For Tortorella, developing a guy as an NHLer is all about professionalism. Consistency from one shift to the next is part of that. Once Kreider shows that, he'll stick. Not until then.

That was awesome. Everything was great tonight. We pretty well outplayed them but Holtby was brilliant.

I was (heresy) looking at the Bruin thread last week after the OT game. They were killing Seguin, saying he has only one move and is wasting his talent.

Nope.

But make no mistake he is fully capable of being a 30 goal scorer in this league.

You expected him to score 30 in a 48 game schedule. nash probably wont hit 20

To be fair he really hasnt had much of a chance. He has only played a handful of games with limited icetime and also has had to deal with an ankle injury for the bestter part of 2 months

Of course not, was just commenting on what others were saying. I'd still like to see him play regularly and not on the 4th line. Let him learn in the NHL, we'll all be rewarded in the end. He's big, fast, great hands and shot, what's not to like, and how many of the Rangers forwards can we say that about (except for Nash). Probably has more upside than Hagelin (who is playing great).

I like Hagelin BUT he is playing with Nash so it makes his life a lot more easier playing with a guy like nash

Playing consistently from shift to shift happens whether you pick up 30 shifts in a game or 5. I'll grant you the ankle injury, but beyond that... I'm on Torts' side here.

Lets be perfectly honest, Washington's D was a huge pile of poo tonight. The Rangers still look marginal offensively the past couple games.

Although for three games Boyle wasn't in the lineup, the Rangers were dictating the tempo of the game. They could run 4 lines consistently, in fact our bottom six looked great.

Now, we are back to having difficulty with our breakouts. We are bit shaky in our end, with Hank bailing us out. We have pretty much one legit scoring line.

I don't even want to talk about the PP.

Here is the thing. when Kreider came back from injury Torts was very complimentary toward him and miller for a few games UNTIL the Boston game. Now I dont think Kreider was bad in boston. he actually should have had a goal and broke up a few breakaway plays. Thats my only complaint it seemed very sudden

I said it in the GDT, I know Cally is the captain and what not, but he should really volunteer to play LW for Gabby. Gaborik is our best goal scorer and he needs to be on the right wing to get going.

Great all around game, so what if we were down 1-0 a minute in we came back. I was upset at that goal because I hate John Carlson with a passion. Something about his face just bothers me, it started when he scored the gold medal winning goal against Canada in the WJHC and it was just compounded in the playoffs last year.

The 3 game Prucha-ing of Boyle really seems to have gotten his jump back and he's playing the defensive hockey we're used to.
I love the tenacity of the 4th line, Halpern and Asham are doing what they gotta do, get it deep, keep it there then get off the ice. Really hoping Powe is ok, although it didn't look good.
Maybe drop Boyle down to 4th line wing + PK and go Pyatt Miller Kreider as line 3?

Ok but whose says he wont next year. Maybe kreider will have a great second half and playoffs. then next year in an 82 game season his whole game will be more ready. her certainly has the talent

I don't disagree. I just hope the kid actually gets some playing time.

I think the Rangers speed and forecheck had a lot to do with how their D looked. And, to be fair, those 3 games where Boyle sat Powe, Kreider and Miller brought a lot of speed to the 3rd and 4th lines.

makes sense. stu consistently sucked as opposed to eminger who sometimes sucked and sometimes was great. hence stu getting put in the games last year #tortslogic
