When was the last time we saw this type of goal scoring seperation in relation to thier peers ?

Most dominant goal scoring season of the modern era if you look at the difference between Leon and the guys behind him. Leon might hit 50 before anyone even hits 37.

Not sure but as for players scoring 60 while no one else hits 50 I looked back like 15 years and there was the one year of stamkos scoring 60 and Malkin made the cut at 50 but someone would have to dig deeper to know if it’s something that’s never happened before

I mean, Matthews hit 50 before anyone hit 40 just last season, so its not as if we haven't seen other dominant goal scoring seasons recently. Still incredibly impressive, I am rooting for him to win the Hart this year.

I think it is unfair to consider dominance as only performance vs #2 or #3 in the league.

Look at the top goal-scorers from the last couple of years, more so just a bit of luck that his biggest 5 goal scoring competitors are all having down years (Matthews, Reinhart, Mackinnon, Panarin, Pastrnak). And then guys like Ovechkin and Kaprizov have missed a lot of time. Ovechkin missed 2 months and has 33 in 50gp - paces out to about 43-44 goals in the same # of GP as Draisaitl.

Doesn't mean Drai wouldn't be leading in goals - he's having a crazy year and one of the best in the cap era. But makes more sense to look at the bigger picture. Looking at #5/10/30 eliminates a lot of the high variation of 2 single players having down years, missing time etc.

To me - Ovi's 2008 is still the clear cut most dominant goal scoring season, with Stamkos 2012 right behind him for #2. Draisaitl is right there and could be argued in the #3 or #4 though.

Realistically too, while scoring is down slightly over recent years, it’s not so much where his numbers should be dramatically different in value compared to those recent years. If he ends up with 60, it’s clearly not as good as Matthews’ 69 last year, and not appreciably different than McDavid in ‘23, and only a bit better than Pasta in ‘23 and Matthews in ‘23. Granted those are some really strong goal scoring seasons relative to league scoring.
