Mega accomplishment for sure, but when he doesn't even surpass the previous years rocket winners goal totals, trying to argue that this is one of the best goal scoring season ever is a weird take.
Good thing then that the post said no such thing at all...

The statement was that it may be one of the greatest goalscoring seasons relative to his peers, you cannot just cut away one half of that statement and pretend it's still the same statement. In no way, shape or from, did that post call Draisaitl's current season "one of the best goal scoring season ever". That's nothing but a strawman. I really don't get why so many people have trouble simply replying to an actual statement, instead of completely distorting them before replying.

Speaking of strawman, this one takes the cake though:
You're right, everything is fine. Plan the parade.
No one said anything like that at all. Edmonton has a bad run right now, that's it. They often look bad after prolonged breaks. The team was a complete dumpster-fire to start the year last season, no one thought they had a chance at making the playoffs, yet they not only managed that but reached game 7 of the Cup-finals.
You would think that be recent enough not to make outlandish doom-posts because of a bad stretch...

...the poster wasn't saying that; you can't take half of the post and whitewash the other half..."relative to his peers" was what they said...he's lapping the field THIS YEAR...why can't people read & comprehend??...

That statement alone can be argued 7 different ways to Sunday in both directions.
Of course. Because any faint praise of Draisaitl on these boards grinds your gears. We get it, you don't like him.

...he did say "RELATIVE TO HIS PEERS"...if he laps the field by 15+, it's a major accomplishment...
Reading comprehension isn't his specialty. Just more mental gymnastics to discredit a player he despises.

While he's having a phenomenal season (0.75 GPG), I'd argue this is in part due to Kaprizov (0.65 GPG) and Ovechkin (0.70 GPG) both missing 15+ games. Throw in a down year by Matthews (who has also missed a good number of games) and you have a weak field, if you're judging only by raw totals.
What a weird statement. Ovechkin hasn't been a threat to win the Rocket for 5 years. Kaprizov's best finish is 6th.

Seems like Matthews has only looked good in the past because he's been competing against weak fields?

Is that the point you are trying to make here?

Or the point is the field is weak this year because you want to detract from Draisaitl no matter how many logical fallacies you have to exercise?

A lot of Leaf fans with their noses out of joint because Matthews isn't running away with it.

Relative to his peers, Draisaitl might be having one of the greatest goal scoring seasons ever...
Where is it obvious that "relative to his peers" translates to this specific year only, ignoring injuries for said peers, while in the same unstructured sentence saying "ever" which obviously refers to every season quite literally "ever"?

He was asking to get torn apart with that one. Say this instead:

"Is his goal differential vs the next highest scorer one of the best weve ever seen in a single season assuming he finishes at +x goals over the next guy?

Then its maybe a small accomplishment, but even likely not. Matthews was +12 on Reinhart last year and Drais is +11 this season, but we would all quickly say he is only +4 on AO's pace if it weren't for injury.
Draisaitl could get 60 plus goals and 130 plus points in the same season. How far back do you have to go to find someone who did this ?
Then this was right before...lol. McDavid literally just did it. The dude is trying hard to make Draisaitl's season into something it isnt.

Drais is on pace for 61 which is amazing, but lets not blow it out of proportion here. 70+ is the new holy crap number.

If Drai scores 60+ and second place has 45 goals, it will definitely give a big boost to Drai's season when it is compared to other historical goal scoring seasons.

Right now according to hockey reference, this season is tied for the 10th best goal scoring season of all time along with Matthews from 20/21, Brett Hull from 91/92, and Beliveau from 55/56.

You are comparing this year to Matthews from last season, which was 6th best all time in adjusted goals. So its not like this season for Drai is pedestrian just because it is not as good as Matthews last year. If Draisaitl holds the pace, we are still looking at an all time historic goal scoring season.

Have the link handy for that? Im not saying its a bad season by any stretch, but to already lump it into greatest of all time is silly. He needs to finish with this same pace, which he may. Lets talk game 82.

And second place means nothing if total goals scored around the league are still on close to recent seasons.

Also, hes on pace to have his 4th best assist season. Obviously Id put a lot more weight into his season thus far if he was dominating there as well. Tied for 10th with two dmen and another ahead of him.

Goes back to the sharing the load with McDavid theory. If Connor wanted to go ham in G or A, he could, and if he didnt miss 6 games, he'd be at 83/84 points now barely behind Leon and we'd be blowing him per usual giving him the MVP. AKA neither of them deserve it.

This is the ROCKET RICHARD threat. Try harder to deflect.
