With the injuries on their blueline, I could see Vancouver taking a chance. Granted, it would be a whole different sort of drama for a bit if they bring him in.

talk about theatrics?? “oh i’m rotting away” okay says the epitome of JAG. if the epitome of JAG feels emboldened to say some ridiculous shit like that the organization is in f***ing shambles.
Rotting away compared to being an inmate at an asylum is nothing. You’re framing someone as crazy for just saying something. It’s stupid and not helpful.

They’ve been screwing him his whole career there. Totally bundled his career

Promising prospect who’s never been given a real shot by the rangers coaches. Eerily similar to Kakko in that way.
A 3rd rounder is typically lucky to get sniff of NHL and can't be considered getting screwed over.
Kakko was projected to be a franchise forward so not the same situation.
Guys like Lavoie, Bourgault and others buried in depth may be better comparables. Most of these become available on waivers.

Embarrassing for a franchise to fall so far so quickly.

A player with his resume making these complaints, so strongly, is a bit silly. Great, he wants to play and has confidence in himself. But Jones hasn't done anything positive with the time he has been given. A year ago, I would have agreed he wasn't given a chance he deserved. After another 25 games this year, I don't think he has done anything to earn more time. His competition for playing time hasn't been solid, and he hasn't outplayed them really. He can skate, he could provide offense, but he hasn't, and he's not strong and hasn't proven himself a notably stable defenseman yet (admittedly, he needs to develop in order to be able to do so, but the environment is difficult on this year's Rangers).

He probably should have avoided stirring the pot in the media a little longer and he could get a shot if the Rangers keep losing and someone (probably Lindgren) is traded out. Instead, he is acting entitled to more than he deserves (yet), and that might hurt his situation more than help. There's better ways to say what he's saying... *if* Kakko got traded because of his media comments, Jones will be getting shopped for his. The Rangers would be better off keeping Jones around a little longer before they move him, but Jones needs to step up if he gets another chance to prove he deserves it.

What do you think of Zac Jones now? I think I remember you being pretty high on him years ago. Is he just trade bait at this point?
Wrote this earlier today in another thread. He's probably a goner in the offseason at the latest.
I’ve stuck up for Jones a lot, but I feel like he’s getting a lot of sympathy right now he shouldn’t get because people simply want to trash the Rangers when they’re down.

Jones got a chance this year. And he blew his chance. He wasn’t putting up points, he was way too aggressive with his positioning up the ice, and he’s small and that creates challenges in his own zone.

Do I think he was the biggest culprit when he eventually was taken out of the lineup? No, but when you’re a 5’10 third round pick with good, not great offensive skills you aren’t going to have unlimited chances. Team needed more stability on the backend when he was taken out of the lineup.

This is what the NHL is. I don’t feel like he’s been treated that unfairly. I wish NHL teams and coaches didn’t have fetishes for big and tough and bad at hockey defensemen, but they do and for what the situation is for a player of Jones type he hasn’t done enough to say he’s getting screwed over worse than the archetype tends to when they are good, not great for the profile.

I really doubt it changes on another team with another coach.

Were the Rangers winning, Jones complaining would be troublesome. But as it is, I absolutely can’t argue with him.

The problem isn't that they don't think he's a full time guy (like it wasn't with Kakko). The problem is that they think other (much worse) players are fullER time guys (in Jones' case Lindgren, Borgen, and Vaakanainen is borderline). And so players who don't deserve scratches are benched or scratched in favor of the older, shittier vets.
Laviolette favors vets. They need a coach that does not. If there are such coaches lol then again there's not even much accountability with Laviolette.
