‘18-19 State of the Ducks Part II - Failed

Mahura and Welinski in that Mix too. As just stated above.

But I agree with you. Was tough to see Montour go and not Fowlers contract. Montour was the weaker of the 4.

The State of our Team is a Question Mark with 1 and a half Thumbs down.

I get what your saying, but you are excluding Mahura, Welinksi, Hunter Drew, etc. We also have 2 1st round picks this year.

I'm actually suprised we haven't moved Fowler, but that should tell you the market. Prices were pretty low this trade deadline. Not a good time to be a seller.

I think once we saw the prices, we decided to get a reasonable deal for Montour and stand pat. Given what others paid, 1st + decent prospect isn't bad especially if i'm wrong about Manson -> Guehle connection and the fact that the ducks were maligned against Montour (rightly or wrongly).

I was just listing the top 6 guys, we obviously had more depth in 2017 past Montour including the likes of Mahura and Larsson at that time.

I get the feeling that with the trades we have and have not made, We all seem to have our Cap Space in high regard.
Example: My biggest problem with Henrique and Fowler is (once again) Perry and Kesler still being paid 6 million more than they are worth for 3-4 more years.

Eaves bugs me far more. Kesler at least served his part when needed, and Perry looks good since coming back. It's looking like it will take a miracle for Eaves to even have a season's worth of games by the time that his contract is up.

Yeah, he's had a rough run. At least he's getting paid.

Drafting Comtois in round 2 of that draft softens the blow. If we missed, I would have been going on and on about how he BARELY met the conditions for the pick to be changed to a first.

so more moves in the summer to get younger?

rico and possibly fowler gone, but outside of that I don't see how he can change the team over a little bit.

I hate that our blueline depth has gone from:

Fowler
Lindholm
Manson
Vatanen
Theodore
Montour

To

Fowler
Lindholm
Manson
Guhle
Larsson (who is in the AHL)
Megna/Holzer/insert scrub here

Within the space of a year and a half. Obviously we no longer have Stoners contract and also have Henrique but we are down to a three man blueline, all of whom have underachieved this season and one of which is having by far his worst season in 6 years.

That to me shows poor asset management. Murray has done a lot of good and has helped build up a lot of depth. But he’s gotten rid of a lot of quality assets, most notably on the blueline for not much in return.
Bob completely mismanaged the depth we had two years ago because he hired a f***ing dinosaur with an antiquated view of the sport

We moved out 3 PMDs and got what in return??

We are a little short on D with Montour gone. Feeling is, the 4/5 kids cant fill the last 3 spots with the Big 3 so inconsistant.
We cant score. At all. Ever. Were up against the Cap and all our forwards are signed.
Wheres the positive? Unless its a bad yr all around....is this a good team next yr? Kids wont save us. Cant buy talent.

Whats our move to change the state of the team?

Really starting to think we should send off these picks.

Send Jack Hughes and San Jose first for massive help. We can give Getzlaf and Perry an entire front two lines. We’re talking about retirement jerseys and hall of famers here.

Wouldn’t it be our utmost respect to see what we can do to help them before retirement? Due diligence is what I call it.

Great idea, if Getzlaf and Perry were 5 years ago versions. Perry is a third liner on a good team now. Getzlaf can still drive a line but doesn't dominate like he once did.

This would start with a buy out of Kesler or Retirement. And we would have to move Silf and or Rico.
Cause we cant move picks for players with no cap space!!!

You know Perry and Getzlaf jerseys are going to the rafter right? They been life long Ducks. No teemus or Giggys. I’m just spit balling here.

They been loyal as hell. I would try, and save there legacy if I could with our picks. But obviously this isn’t NHL 19. If Murray respected our players signing that line for an entire career? I’ll ship off anything for your last hoorah.

A competent GM doesn't run a franchise that way. You want to create a winning team in the future, not pander to players because they have been good in the past.

Loyalty. You need to pick up a book from Shane Doan in Phoenix.

Both Getzlaf and Perry gave there life for this dying franchise. We bow down to both of them imo. If they want us to draft we draft. If they want us to trade? We trade for help.

Legends shouldn’t be thrown to the curb because they aren’t worth much anymore.

I respect your opinions. But you’re acting like players are mules.

I agree only in the sense that they both are valuable, and probably more valuable then the return that they would garner.

I actually won't be at all surprised if the San Jose pick is in play. This is a plenty deep prospect pool and it's a pretty great asset.

I would love to see us package the first rounder to either move up in the draft, or with a Fowler/Henrique/whomever to return a much better piece moving forward.

Some fans are freaking out, but the Ducks did exactly what they should've done during the trade deadline IMO. Murray has almost always only made "hockey trades", they moved the weakest of the top 4 dmen for a 1st and good prospect. This season is clearly lost and they still have the entire offseason to continue to retool/rebuild. I'm sure if there were "hockey trades" for Fowler/Rico/whomever then he would've pulled the trigger on those. It's not a time to panic and sell everyone.
