PP is 2 for 44 (4.5%) since the New Year’s Day.

Crazy that they’re 5 games above NHL .500 over that same span.

Funny that two years ago we had meltdowns over never making big moves and now it was a bad idea to make big moves two years in a row. Just can't win. We lost nothing that hurts getting Guentzel and I'd heavily argue the same with Rantanen seeing as Necas was back to pacing for like 55 points after his streak he would have never had again for us. Also, we're going to have a f*** ton of cap space if he doesn't stay and still a good core locked in.

And it's pretty absurd to think we have no chance to win the cup. We just had an amazing month and now we're fighting illness and integrating new guys.

I think the team will be fine when things get more sorted out and there is likely more hole filling to come (giggity). Rants will break out soon because he's great and getting great chances.

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and trust the process until I actually have a reason not to. I was one of the folks doing that before the season rather than crying the sky is falling and that's working out just fine.

See, here’s my point of view:

PK allowed two PP goals to the league’s best PP, one of which saw one player dance through all 4 penalty killers and the other that saw an 80 mph screened slap shot from the top of the slot. Can’t blame him for either one. Just gotta hope the team scores to help him out. And they failed to do that for 55 f***ing minutes.

Was the 3rd goal leaky? Maybe. It was a pass that PK blocked with his stick, that bounced high off Kupari’s body, right back down into the crease. Svech certainly could have been better at tying him up to help his goalie out and not give him 2-3 whacks to finally put the puck in.

But the fact remains: The team didn’t score, so unless you were expecting PK to ALSO pitch a shutout, he’s blameless as far as I’m concerned.

For me that’s been one of the main lingering issues with the team; lack of confidence. Other teams can smell blood in the water and pressure us, especially in the playoffs.

The 2C conundrum is still glaring. I’ll still beat the drum that I think Pettersson was the better play for long term success
in giving up Necas. Aho-Pettersson as your 1-2 punch down the middle for the better part of a decade would have been something. Anyways, I get why they went for Rantanen, he’s a better player, but in terms of fit, I think Pettersson was more of the play they should have made, no contract risk there either.

I don’t think Hall is a top 6 winger either. If you could get by with Kotkaniemi and Hall + Blake/Roslovic in your bottom 6, then you have something. I like Jarvis with Staal and Martinook, but I think it’s time to move him up to Kotkaniemi’s line at least. I have no problem with top line Blake, they’re generating a ton, just no Finnish yet.

Back to 2C, it would be nice for them to take another swing there, but I don’t really see how. Taking back Hall’s full $6M hit severely limits what they can bring back, in terms to of cap hit. And if they dealt Kotkaniemi in a package for a 2C, well then you’re still short a C. Seems like a summer problem to fix.

I at least made it through the first period. Once WPG scored I figured that was it anyway. Went and watched some of WSH-FLA, two teams that actually, you know, give out effort all game long.

I’ve watched a handful of Florida games this year. They definitely have games where they look like the only objective is to go out and act like assholes. Recently they’ve looked better but they definitely aren’t giving 100% every game. One of the most obnoxious teams in the league with their ring leader Tkachuk. It works well for them in the playoffs though.

Good shot but he was much too low on 2nd goal....confused on 3rd goal. We will have to disagree re: the game's results. One goal games are comeback achievable.....2, much more difficult against a superb D squad.

And as I also noted, D is not blameless as Burns and Orlov screwed up the first two goals. My notion of improving the D was challenged by you but the fact remains we need an upgrade there to compete.

Strongly agree.....that's why the MR move is a big gamble versus getting one of the Canuck players. Kudos to Tulsky for putting his nuts on the line though (I doubt Francis would have made this move) as he could lose Necas without a return at all next year.

However, making the move this year in advance of a smallish cap increase is perhaps worth the gamble versus some years out when the cap explodes above $110M.

We've had a few exciting comebacks, but yea often times you can tell the games where a 1-goal deficit is too much. I can't be too hard on them, they did lose to the best team in the league and were playing against the refs as well, plus I assume the last 2 games we've not been playing with everyone at 100% but probably at various levels of fighting off illness. Of course, given our 2 months of .500 hockey that we sorta ended a couple weeks back, it's hard to tell if we weren't feeling our best, or just back to our nonchalant unfocused hockey again. Comrie made some good saves, but there was a lot of plays/shots that were just a second delayed where any goalie who was in roughly the right position position had a 95% chance of stopping it even by accident.

Carrier injury was a loss....when he comes back, the Aho & 4th line gets much better with Jarvis probably up to the Aho line and Blake back down to 4th.

I'm not panicking and I think this roster for the most part has a good as a chance as the other top teams come playoffs. I mean this loss was against the best team in the league, on a hot streak, while illness has been running wild though our team.
