Looks nice to me. I like how that red line looks.
It looks like a nice rink for a rural CHL team. Like the Lethbridge Hurricanes or Drummondville Voltigeurs.Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum
But it gives the franchise an option IF Glendale refuses to negotiate, no?It looks like a nice rink for a rural CHL team. Like the Lethbridge Hurricanes or Drummondville Voltigeurs.
I thought you don't attend games?Would cut my drive by 1/3. The Tempe location would cut it by 1/2.
So this has been kinda quiet, are we officially at the "2 weeks" stage of this story?

Is there a better option?
This but for the Coyotes doesn't seem so bad and could work for a season or two...

Only a couple per year since I moved to Gilbert, they remained in Glendale, and have been horrendous. Prior to that, I’d go much more frequently. If they either get good or move closer, I’ll go often. My older boy is now old enough to bring. So I’ll have even more reason.I thought you don't attend games?
The AESF requested a one-time increase of $254,300 from the AESF Fund in FY 2021 for additional operating costs at the Arizona Veterans' Memorial Coliseum (Coliseum). The Coliseum will be the host facility for the Phoenix Mercury WNBA basketball team during the 2020 season, which will run May through September. The Mercury will play a minimum of 18 games at the Coliseum, in addition to any potential post-season games. The agency anticipates Phoenix Mercury home games at the Coliseum will generate a total of $1,003,300 in additional revenue. This one-time revenue will be offset by an estimated $254,300 in additional one-time operating expenses, resulting in a net profit of approximately $749,000.
Found this about the Mercury lease of Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum...
($1,003,300/18) = $55,739 per game. If Coyotes could get a similar deal, 42 home games, 3 preseason, postseason , would be 45 games. Would run $2.5 million per season.
If the WNBA sketch is anything to go by they'd have like 8,000 seats and no skyboxes.
I wonder how much Phoenix actually put into renovating the AVMC. Not that much I expect, though any renovation is an improvement.
I usually go to at least one concert there every year during the state fair. Last time was 2018 though, so haven’t seen the improvements they did for the Mercury. Attended a dozen or more Roadrunner games and even some roller hockey games with the Phoenix Cobras.
I still don’t see it making sense for the Yotes and also wonder how well the piping has been maintained since they dropped the ice plant.
And yet oddly, I do think the city of Phoenix might be willing to invest more maintenance/improvement money into the arena if they have the Yotes as a tenant and the improvements carry over to help the AVMC as an anchor of the state fairgrounds. We’re not talking a lot though, less then $10m I’d guess.
It's owned by the State.. not the city of Phoenix.Coyotes would bring in much more revenue. Maybe Phoenix has already reached out to the team and started the discussion.
Why would these tenants rather have 0 Coyotes games. Makes zero sense at all.
Correct, COG is just posturing, Coyotes will play in Glendale until a new arena is built, a deal will get worked out past this season. Why would these tenants rather have 0 Coyotes games. Makes zero sense at all.
As I understand it, the big sticking point is that if you have the Coyotes at the arena, you can't plan out/book the arena until the schedule comes out for the next season. So if a nationwide concert tour starts in March looking to come through AZ in November, GRA doesn't know when it will be available until after the next season schedule comes out in June (or whenever). Not sure why they can't book the arena and send that info to the NHL.Why would these tenants rather have 0 Coyotes games. Makes zero sense at all.
I thought I remembered reading that WNBA games are generally free admission and they mitigate losses through the sale of concessions. The NBA covers the rest of the losses as a charitable contribution. Is any of that true. Now that I type it out, sounds crazy.
Maybe it’s just upper level is free? Or some very small “general admission” price?Fry's runs a promotion for getting free tickets to certain games but they do charge for tickets.
