Rumors are starting to swirl and it seems like a deal makes sense, Habs need more offence and have the assets to entice Anaheim. Montreal has two first round picks in 2024 and way too many young defenseman in the system. Zegras is also good buddies with Caufield, so what does it take to get a deal done?
Who is speculating other than you.

Anyway, the Ducks would need want back a player who can either be a top 6 winger or center, consistently score 60+ points, still has a few years under team control, drives a lot of merchandise sales, and is 3-5" taller & 20-30# heavier. Unless you have one of those you want to trade for, nah they'll keep Z.

WPG 1st, Dvorak*, Strubble
or
Habs 1st (top 8 protected), Dvorak*

Could see Habs adding another pick to either offer (2nd or 3rd), but not another 1st.

(* could be any of Dvorak, Anderson, Armia or Allen, or none if ducks prefer the cap room)

If Ducks get a better offer elsewhere, doubt that KH will match. Like PLD last year, Habs aren't likely to outbid a team willing to look past the off ice/attitude ?

Speculation?! It doesn't sound like speculation at all honestly. Engels is not a good source IMO.

What would you guys be offering? Tbh I see you guys being horrible trade partners. I don't see a deal getting done between you guys at all.

Really no reason for Anaheim to do either of those

But can you get that elsewhere?
Don't think the market for Zegras will be set till the draft.

I'd say there's no reason for them to trade him period... But the ducks made clear this summer they aren't yet convinced he's a long term part of their plans. Year 1 of the bridge deal they forced him into has been a bust, will be interesting to see if they hold on & hope year 2 works out better or if they prioritize shipping him out.

Not so sure they get offers worth much more if they do

Do we really need another one of these threads?

Things the Ducks don't want in return for Zegras. Please pay attention:

1. Late first rounders as the main piece coming back.
2. Aging players even if they're good right now.
3. Young defenseman / defense prospects, especially LHD.
4. Any prospect not likely to be a 1st line talent.

What would it take to get Zegras from the Ducks, considering that there's no indication he's even being shopped?

1. A top young player on an RFA deal who projects to be a legit 1st line talent who is better than Zegras and the Ducks are the ones that add to the deal, not the other way around. We're talking about a Franchise quality talent that you don't want to give up as an armchair HFboards GM.

2. A massive overpay of futures and prospects that Verbeek can't turn down.

Habs 2024 1st top 3 protected + Mesar + Dvorak + Newhook.

Assume it ends up looking like Sam Dickenson (8th overall) + the rest above.

Lock it up. Hab fan being hopeful.
We're not, I don't want Zegras at all on this team, it would be way too costly.

Montreal is not winning anything for another 5 years so better be at the bottom of the league.

I mean, they clearly have one of these, and they're also clearly not trading him..
