He should be nothing but an injury replacement at this point. Definitely not a bad guy to have around the dressing room to keep players accountable during a playoff run but you wouldn’t want him taking a regular shift

At this stage of his career he probably makes any contender worse if he’s getting consistent ice time. However, it would be logical for Boston to get him as a depth piece or at least somewhere he has familiarity with

His offense is gone, but his defense isnt.

His 1.9 ESGA/60 is better than anyone on Toronto, and is 3.7 PKGA/60 is better than anyone with more than 1 min PK TOI on Toronto.

His ESGA/60 is better than the likes of Fox, Makar, McAvoy, Hedman, Josi

His 2.5 defensive point shares are behind only Rielly and Brodie. His 56 blocks are good for 3rd, and 89 hits would be #1

Point being, he's still a valuable defensive specialist for any contender.

I'd probably be willing to trade him to Boston for like a 6th round pick if I were the NYI gm.

It wouldn't be bad for Boston either. You're not gonna find too many better #7 defensemen than Zdeno Chara. It would also be nice for him to retire a Bruin as that's where he did the most memorable things in his career.

At this point, he's pretty useless unless he's yelling, "Fee Fi Fo Fum!"

I can't see him accepting to play in Toronto but by the off chance he does, a mid-late pick should do. If you're moving a body in return, Long Island born Joe Duszak can tag along with the pick.

I’d take him in STL, because he’d be cheap to acquire, and it wouldn’t stop us from getting someone for the top pair.

I’ll offer up Walman and/or a mid to late pick.

I would actually love to have him back in Boston for a late pick. Trade futures for Chychrun and a late round pick for Chara

Reilly not working out? Genuine question as I’m not familiar with Boston situation.

obviously would take Z back in the organization and in the lockerroom in an instant. But it'd have to be with the understanding that he shouldn't expect to be a regular and no guarantees he'll dress for the entire playoff run (if we even have one).

You could do worse than having him as a bottom pair whose minutes are conserved and deployed primarily on the PK though.

He is one of those good puck movers who makes the occasional WTF turnover that stick in the fan bases head. All his numbers say “good” but… I dunno think Jake Gardiner or Dennis Wideman.

Gryz is better. Forbort is worse but has a defined role as “PK guy”. Reilly is the first one Bruins fans look to move when trying to upgrade the LD group. Bruins have been playing him on top pair with McAvoy during their winning streak and it has been going well.

Some suspect it’s a showcase.

Whatever the market is for a third pair defender. Realistically, that's what he is. No shame in it. Play him down your lineup. Reduce his minutes. Give him PK time.
