To my untrained eye, I thought Zach Trotman had a decent game last night. I didn't notice him much, which is often a good thing when it comes to defensemen. And neither Brick nor Jack (or Barry) noted glaring miscues or blown assignments. He played over 12 minutes, too.

Curious because the Bruins are going to need solid stay at home D that won't hurt the team, especially over the next 4 to 6 weeks (if they're lucky).

What do you think? I'm especially interested to hear from those of you who've seen him play in Providence on a regular basis.

someone said he played like corey potter, which i hope isn't true.

i thought he looked comfortable as well. he used his stick really well.

I was thinking the same thing. Other than once or twice, I can't even remember hearing his name. Like you say, when it comes to young D-men, that's often a good sign. But I wasn't really focusing on him - be curious to hear what others thought.

Came here to say this.

For the style of game he plays, it's a very good thing not to hear his name. Means he's doing his job right.

Even though it was a single play, i liked that clutch poke check he made when it was like a 4-2 or 3-2 coming into the zone to break up a play last night - he made it look easy

Agreed, I remember a couple of instances where he very calmly did his job and didn't get his feathers ruffled. Looked solid so hopefully it was a good game to have him start to break in his career.

Yea I said Corey Potter, which necessarily isn't a bad thing for a kid. He's got room to improve, but could be a serviceable 6-7 Dman in the future. Thought he played ok.

I thought I had seen talk about his play at rookie camp. When pro camp came along I expected the same. Only the talk I heard was Bart this and Waro that.

If this is all designed by the Bruins to not mess him up :handclap: on them.

Completely unnoticed by me.

Thats a good thing on D:)

I really like this kid. Caught my eye at dev camp last year and been following him since. Think he could have middle pair potential. Glad to see him sticking up

I also noticed him last year and liked, and commented on it, what I saw. I especially like that he plays the right side (in spite of Slam saying he shoots left). Could be a 2nd pair player in a short time. I heard Morrow was sent back down so he must have impressed someone.

Yeah seriously he looked comfortable. That's the perfect word for him.

I know this whole concept of getting to actually look at prospects in the NHL level in a new thing, but let's not be so desperate to move guys in and out constantly, unless there is reason to.

From what I can see right now, give Trotman another game or two before you stick someone else in that spot. At least, that's how I'd do things. I can understand not everyone feels that way. I just think there shouldn't be a standard, especially with a D-man, to be flashy your first game out. That's asking for a disaster. Trotman seemed to do pretty much everything he was supposed to correctly.

I like him but he was off the two games I saw him in Providence but last year I saw him double digit live and I thought he was coming along nicely. He's smarter in one area than Morrow he knows enough to bring his visa on the road.

Morrow in my best guesstimate working on observation needs to be a little more structured and simplify it a bit. Eyeball test is pretty good; coaches tapes (and eyes maybe not so)...

Guy to watch is Casto. Could be quite the steal- hearing very good things on him from more than one precinct

And we had been just so flush with "specialty defensemen" ... a good steady at home man could find a place here.

Trot and Bart made a pretty good pair, maybe some old chemistry from when those two were D-partners in Providence?? Trotman looked very comfortable out there and avoided significant mistakes. Krug is playing better than i expected in the top-4, so those two make a good 3rd pairing... for now anyway.

I was going to point this exact play out.

He looks very calm and collected out there, I love that aspect of him. I haven't seen enough of him to decide whether or not I want, or can see him sticking with the big club. He certainly seems like he could be a better fit that Miller. I'd love for him to turn into a middle paring guy.

I was paying some attention to him since I was interested in seeing how the Bs D would do without Z. I thought he did a more than serviceable job. Not only did he stay in position well and was fundamentally pretty sound, but I liked that he wasn't afraid to shoot. Granted all that was against a team that played like crap.
