1. Stand Pat…:we’re good
2. Add another centerman (2C?)
3. Add another defenseman, ie RD
4. Add another goalie

I’d add another goalie and defenseman. I’d run with Koko/Jost unless something much better drops in.

I think ET said it best. They are always looking for ways to improve the roster. I think they will continue to be active around the TDL. Not sure any 2C’s will be available but some seem to think the Canes are still sniffing around Miller. This team is a contender and should look to improve those chances.

I think a 4C and 7D are more realistic trade options.

TBH, I don't think Miller inquiries was ever serious, it was always EP.

What do I think we should do?
Acquire a RHD on an expiring deal to pair with Slavin.

I think as much as we want one, the will be no RHD acquisition for us between now and the start of camp and Morrow will be entering camp expected to make the NHL roster.

What do I think we will do?
Acquire depth skaters at F, D, or both. Always a safe bet to stockpile veteran depth.

A 2C if the right offer comes along...though I would not be surprised, with the way Svech-KK-Hall has gelled in these 2 games, if WLOG in the top-6 if they keep it up until the TDL.

It all depends on the options available and costs along with health of our squad as we approach trade deadline, so I can't pick any one option as a blanket option. I'm completely comfortable standing pat and there is also a scenario where we get a Nelson or Miller (unlikely but possible in theory) and I'm cool with that. Or even trying to solve the mid/long term 1RHD problem -- more likely in the offseason of course but not impossible pre-deadline.

As always though I wouldn't make any deals without the longer term in mind. Mikko is a big add and a health Freddie really changes things but I still have no interest in trying to go "all in" this year or any year. It didn't work for us last year, the Panthers tried it a little while ago and lost to the Bolts that year before winning the cup a few years later without any of those short term additions from their first attempt to go "all in." The best way to build the team is to be a contender every year (like we have been) and give yourself more chances at having the stars and injury luck, hot goaltending/special teams, etc. align. If it is something shorter term but is cheap enough then fine, I don't think losing what we gave up for Guentzel was all that consequential but still don't prefer to give up big assets for any rentals.

I think the GM will look for a gem-veteran in the goal-tending ranks.
Someone who could feel comfortsable in a Play-Off situation if that was need for the 'Canes.
Depth Players on Defence and Offence would be veterans who are known for speed and toughness.

As exciting as it is thinking about bigger moves (even after Rantanen and Hall), I think a 4C is probably the most realistic possibility by the trade deadline after we traded Drury. I doubt we make any other move after that.

Although if they think they're good with Jost as our 4C once he returns, maybe they look at another position to upgrade instead, or they just keep the roster we have. Regardless, I'd be surprised if we get a new 2C this season after all the assets and money used to acquire Rantanen and Hall (more so the former obviously). I think we get a new 2C this summer at the earliest, but even that's questionable if KK does well enough.

I think if a right defenseman is available with term that fits into our plans they go for it. I think they'll just stick with Jost once he's back with Roslovic on the wing for right handed faceoffs. Dark Lord Tulsky is always looking to upgrade but I think the top 6 barring injury looks like the most playoff capable team we've had in a while

I think a trade like that is tough to do with our cap space right now. Having Nikishin on board, however, could go a long way for us when it comes to giving guys like Burns/Orlov/Ghost some rest in the playoffs.

No chance he comes over by Playoffs anyways, right?
Probably close to zero for the start of the playoffs. But if we go deep, he might be available for the end. It also depends on how SKA enforces the end date of his contract. If his team is eliminated early, he has no more on ice obligations left, but his contract technically is up in May some time, so unsure as to when he could come over.

I'm of the mind that we do not need RHD especially next season and beyond UNLESS our own internal options don't pan out.

Scott Morrow is doing everything that the team is asking of him as he continues to develop in the A. Charles-Alexis Legault is proving to be a very solid right-handed defensive defenseman. Right handed Joel Nystrom is playing exceptionally well against men in the top Swedish league. Simon Forsmark, on the left side continues to show he's likely ready for North American hockey. Even Ronan Seeley, again on the left side, is proving to be serviceable. Add in Nikishin and our cupboard is pretty well stocked with guys we really need to begin seeing how capable they are.

Next season, at worst, we have 2 defensive slots opening (Burns and Orlov). I'd be surprised if those weren't filled by Nikishin and Morrow.

On a completely unrelated note, I hope we consider signing Lucas Mercuri. He's a big centerman, manning the top line for UMass where he's surrounding by some pretty aveage guys. I'm curious to see what happens there. I know @bleedgreen at one time had a soft spot for him too.

Lastly, Ryan Suzuki now has 30 points in 38 games. The boys in Chicago are really coming together.
