Does your team have a stocky, usually bottom-6 winger with size and an underrated shot? Particularly asking about guys who can also blossom in expanded roles as poor man's power forwards (e.g. what Nick Paul has become in Tampa).

Alternately, someone like Matthew Knies would be another example of a fringe/ complimentary top-6 winger with size/ shot. What would these guys cost to trade for?

Duhaime. Will be a UFA after this year. Pitiful scoring statistics belie his speed, and decent hands. Think he would benefit by playing on another team in a slightly elevated role.

I have no idea if he is available. i wouldn't like to lose him, but with the idiotic re-signings by Guerin I think he will be squeezed out of the picture.

Sounds like you're describing Armia. Extremely good at puck protection along the boards. Ok hands and good shot.

The big big problem is a lack of vision and he's slow as molasse. If you can keep him away from open ice he's very effective - he's good in playoffs.

He could be had for super cheap too. His cap hit might be prohibitive for that role though

Wow, just realized he was having a career high in shooting % at 12.1%. Even in the playoffs for his career he's around 11% shooting. If Vancouver ends up trading Myers and has cap space after replenishing the RHD, I think Armia would be a good depth add (a middle-6 line of Armia - Lindholm - Mikheyev would be a strong unit).

Problem is, with the Habs lack of quality forwards during his tenure, he sometimes was put in situations too big for him. Like, he should not play 17 mins like he did in 2019-20.

But for a 3rd/4th line? Good enough.

No he wouldn’t.

I don’t know why Wild fans act like this guy has some untapped potential or something. He’s almost 27, and he has never produced at the pro level. He had 29 points in 87 AHL games.

He’s not any good and is a dime a dozen 4th liner. Because of that, Guerin will probably give him a 4-year extension since he loves those guys.

Does his play get better with stronger linemates?

What if he plays with star players, does his game elevate ?

I honestly cant say. I dont remember him doing super well in a top 6 role, he was more effective at the bottom of the lineup.

But our best forwards during his time with us have been Tatar, Gallagher, now Suzuki and Caufield.

Fwiw Lehkonen was also not able to cut it in a top 6 role with Montreal. Obviously Armia isnt as good, but its difficult to fairly assess their fit with star linemates before they play with them.

Id be tempted to say a younger Armia might have been a good cheap grinder on a line with a star player. Not sure today

Depends on the linemates, but he can play pretty much anywhere. He’s looked like a legit top-6 player when he’s got other players that can cycle and hold onto the puck with him. The Armia-Staal-Perry line from the Habs’ cup run had him looking like an All Star - hence the big contract. Looks like he’s settled into being a dad now and is performing pretty well for a bottom-6 role after a pretty bleak season last year.

Parker Kelly for the sens.

He's shored up the defensive holes in his game and has been progressing really well this season.

He's still a 4th liner/PK guy, but he's got a decent shot and he's been bringing offense. I could see him in a 3rd line motor/banger role in a year or two.
