The one positive I can take is that even when we've played like shit we've typically kept games to one or two goal games (whereas in prior years they'd be 4-1 / 5-2 losses) which makes me feel that if we could get some depth scoring it would push us over the edge but I do agree with other folks, the inconsistency is maddening.

Meier is on a pace for 21 goals. Mercer is on a pace for 18 goals. I’m sure Devils brass expected a lot more (especially the former). Their lack of production is a big part of why we struggle to consistently score goals.

I don’t know about that.. Fitz got high praise for the summer moves.. Timo and others not playing up to expectations… injuries.. chit happens…
INJURIES? We've been pretty f***in lucky with injuries. Who have we lost of consequence other than Markstrom? Siegenthaler pretty recently, and we were already falling down the cliff before he got hurt. We lost Nico for 5 or 6 games, whatever it was. After the free fall started.

Erik Haula's CREMAINS? He wasn't doing a god damn thing before or after that injury.

Injuries were a much bigger problem last year.

The team is also BORING to watch. Low event garbage. The 22-23 team wasn't.

And honestly, the 23-24 team wasn't, other than after Travis Green took over, which didn't even happen until March.

It’s low event because half the forwards are almost non nhl caliber

Can’t beat the drum one year asking for better defensive hockey and then the flllowing year be upset that it’s happening

Everything starts with not having a 3rd line center that contribute offensively. That player plays on PP2 and probably boosts Timo’s goal totals by a couple. Said player would also help Mercer 5v5 (but he still has puck handling problems himself).
