i dont mind the game last night they should've won and if they play like that they will win more then they lose so thats not a worry. just need our stars to finish when they had a ton of chances to do it. me personally if its a team we might face in the playoffs i'm dressing mac and i'm letting him go out there and lay into bodies and be physical.

Just for those who continue claiming Stolarz is a bum. He’s been one of the better goalies in the league this season.

i'm sure its known by many but last night first time i heard that guy was from jersey! is it that hard to get a jersey guy on this roster esp a position of need? having palm was really good

I would agree....if this team hadn't gotten shut out by the Wedgewoods and Blackwoods of the world before....
I wish the Markstrom’s of the world could shutout a team 1-0 while facing a third of the shots Blackwood did while getting a 1-0 shutout.

And not let in a zonker through the legs with 9 minutes left.

Yeah we should have won in regulation but Keefe's deployment in OT has been dreadful. We have a ton of fast and skilled forwards and we're throwing Palat out there lmao. He should never see the ice especially if Pesce or Dougie are on the ice, cmon dude.

If there has to be a frustrating coach quirk, I will take this one. 3 v 3 is not an essential part to making a good team.

We're leaving points on the table.
3 v 3 is 0.1% of the season. I will take that than all the other horrible coaching traits we have seen over the years. Its not gong to prevent them from being a good team at 5 v 5 which is what matters most.

Edit: For what it’s worth. They had their fair amount of chances to win these OT games. They didn’t beat the goalie.

Yeah, if there’s one thing Keefe deserves heat for it’s who he uses in 3 on 3.

We’ve been one of the best 3 on 3 teams in the league over the last 2 years, and Lindy wasn’t regularly using Siegenthaler and defensive defensemen. He probably was using Palat, but Palat went from 33 to 40 over this past offseason.

Leafs fans said that was a big weakness of his which I can definitely see why now but like @NjDevsRR said it's whatever, 3v3 is a crapshoot. If he can play the right guys then we win 75-80% of those OT games because of our skill is tailor made for that format

I don’t foresee us having a finishing problem for a prolonged period of time.

I don't see it becoming a core issue, but the actual issue is that when they do have times when they struggle to score, they need to be good defensively (I won't say if they were good or not in that department), but they also need goaltending to come up big during this, and that definitely was not the case. Now, I have stated my hatred of Markstrom many times already, so I'll spare that, but the fact is he's just been inconsistent here and that's a problem

That was a costly goal that you can't see in the boxscore. I still argue a decade later about Cory Schneider mostly defending him still but, he got accused of being what Markstrom was last night a lot. The difference was we had a 44 year old as our top offensive threat in that era. lol.

the simple question is this- if the goalies were flipped yesterday, what do you think the score of the game would have been?

I don't want to be a "blame only the goalie" guy anymore, and Markstrom has been average this year which is what we've needed. But the skaters absolutely 100% played a tremendous game against a quality opponent. Sometimes you still don't win. That happens. It isn't even worth getting all that worked up about. Still more than half the year to go.

Cory somehow (and wrongfully) developed that kind of reputation for allowing a goal with 9 minutes left on the 35th shot he faced in a game where we we were up 1-0. One of the best games he ever played here was a game against Pittsburgh in I think 14-15 when the N. Bench was the coaching staff. It was scoreless most of the game and we went up 1-0. They had about 35-40 shots before they finally scored one on him late in regulation, and I think they won the game in OT 2-1.

Cory from 2016 on wasn't good and was dreadfully bad after the 2018 playoffs, but Cory between 2013 and 2016 was far too good for the teams we had.

I think Cory would tell you that he would have loved to have played for this current team in his prime. He did play for a cup finalist in Vancouver once, but this team is astronomically better than anything he played for while here.

I could totally see prime Cory sporting a .920% on this team.

1 goal in regulation, no matter how it went, is a very winnable game.
Nobody has denied that.

He kept us from bottoming out when we should have. The end of his tenure was so bad that that's what most people remember but he was ELITE for a few seasons with us.
