It sure is when you are lazy! His name gets tossed around a lot an people want to jump on board.

Yes, Price did bail him out but he was a physical presence who did a good job in some tough matchups. He brings very little offense and therefore his ×GF will suffer.

It's the same reason Muzzins isnt always the greatest.

If he was so great defensively, his xGA would offset the lack of xGF, and the stats would reflect an overall positive impact (like they do for Shea Weber).

Your point about Muzzin makes absolutely no sense. Muzzin historically has had fantastic xG impacts, even in tough minutes. Chiarot does not.

You're calling me lazy but haven't submitted any legitimate evidence. You're getting pretty basic facts wrong.[/QUOTE

Lol. I was calling myself lazy. I hate Chairot. To me he is Gudbranson and maybe worse.

All I said in the original post is that posters want Chairot because of recency bias. He was talked about a lot last postseason.

Very popular amongst our players and coaching staff, I don’t see it happening but in order to get quality you’ll have to give up quality. Miller would be a huge boost though.
Yep, no question there.

I think they'll look to upgrade Holl and maybe a 13th type forward and that will be it.

Derek Grant would be a real nice addition as a 4th line center, can move to LW if needed as well. A little on the pricier side at 1.5 million but would be a great Spezza replacement. Good size, provides grit and size, can kill penalties, etc.

I'd only add on the back end, and only if the price is right.

Perhaps it's time to sell high on Mikheyev? I'd hate to lose his speed, but his value will never be higher.
Mikheyev gives me Stalberg vibes... I think Mikheyev might have a little bit more determination to his game though. Seem to have similar skillsets though. I wouldn't be opposed to moving him for the right price, but I want more than a rental back.

We need to get a top six stud. I hope Nashville continues to drop in standings and Dubas can get Forsberg at max retention. I’d set up the lines follows:
Bunting Matthews Marner (perfection line)
Forsberg Kerfoot Nylander (speed, skill and responsible)
Mikheyev Tavares Kase (going to beat up on third pair d)
Simmonds Kampf Spezza (solid/dependable)
Ho Sang in on fourth line as needed.

I would like to add a top 4 d-man with liljegren being the odd man out (7th d-man). Holl and Sandin have played really well together over the past few games and getting a legit top 4 to pair with muzzin will balance our d core imo. Not sure which defensemen to trade for, but i won't be upset to give up a first, liljegren and + for jakob chychrun.
i mean they have played NJ twice and detroit the last few games. so i would take that with a grain of salt. holl isnt good, he hasnt magically become good suddenly, and he will never be good lol. hes prob the guy you want as the 7th dman. hell i would keep lily in over both him and dermott.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - Hertl - Kase
Engvall - Kampf - Spezza/Simmonds

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Liljegren
Sandin - Holl

I’m definitely down with the idea of reshaping the third line, and that’s exactly how I’d line up the D.
If it gets tight, 3rd period, reunite Holl and Muzzin.
That was my hope for the whole year actually.

I'd be very surprised if Holl is still on the team after the deadline.
A partner for Muzzin remains this teams #1 need.

Miller would be a huge add, especially if Vancouver were to retain 50% of his salary.

Kerfoot, Robertson, 2023 1st. Hefty price but at least we’d have him for 2 playoff runs at a minimum.
Change Kerfoot & Robertson to Richie & Niemela (they really need RHD prospects) kerfoots too important of a guy to use as salary ballast

I’d bet you another dollar that he is.
But again, that’s as far as I’d go.
I think he’s the poster player for ECHL>AHL>NHL development, and valued highly by the team.
I’d guess that TD is the defenseman that’s gone before the deadline.

Could be.
Why would that be valued more than a homegrown player that was drafted and developed?
Most see him as the 7th d man now and removing his salary would help now and next season.

Last season:

I think TOR Management thought that Foligno was the perfect puzzle piece and paid a lot for the piece. I also felt that Foligno himself thought he had to be the perfect puzzle piece, and perhaps that hurt him/the team. I just hope Toronto gets someone who can contribute quietly: no noise, no pressure, just play their game, etc. I also feel like a 5/6 D might be the answer. A Bogosian type. Someone like that.

Grrr mobile posting stinks.
I don’t think the team sees him as the seventh Best, I think he is still viewed as the fourth best, and still a good bet in a shut down roll with Jake Muzzin.

You’re talking about Dermott, right? He’s easily the 8th best defender in a 7 man blue line. After a tough start Holl has been better as of late

Well lets hope not.

He's the 4th best....but with Sandin and Lilly pushing him hard from below. But that's just nice competitive depth between one guy that has proven himself as a good top4 guy and 2 kids with clear top 4 skills.

At this point Dermott is the clear 7th guy but even that's not a huge strike against him, and more a testament to the Leafs' very good defenseman depth.

I get that Holl had a bad start to the year, but he’s been picking it up since before Muzz’ injury, and been great/steady with Sandin lately.
He's been pretty much the same player since he joined the team, IMO.
Easily the weakest link on the back end.

I don't think they need anything up front, and I certainly wouldn't want to see Kerfoot moved before the playoffs. He has been one of the better playoff performers on this team, and he is versatile too.

Blueline needs help. Need the get a Bogosian type to toughen up the blueline. They don't need more offense back there, but they do need more shutdown type presence.

Assets I would hate to see them move include Amirov, Niemela, and I'd rather not give up many more draft picks.

Here is a question that is actually pretty important even for this deadline....... Is the cap going up for next year?

Klingberg, Miller, Manson, Luke Schenn

the last 3 are probably realistic. But I think Klingberg would be the best fit along side Muzzin. Highly mobile, puck moving defenseman. He would improve our PP even more whether it’s unit 1 or two. Our PP struggles in the playoffs
Schenn is way to slow...but a Schenn with feet would be good.
