The Nemesis
Semper Tyrannus
Ideally I'd wait for the Russian roster announcement (by which I mean a confirmed one, not the rumored one in that other topic), but why not get started now. I thought it might be fun to make your own "all-omissions" team to mirror the type of tournament all-star team that gets made at the end.
The idea is simple:
pick a squad of 1 goalie, 2 defencemen, and 3 forwards who you feel deserved a chance to be on their countries' olympic rosters. You can pick an all-omissions 2nd team if you feel you have enough players in mind to do so.
Just to make things interesting, I'm going to stipulate that you can't choose more than 2 players from any one nation, and that any single group of 6 players has to represent at least 4 countries. That way we don't end up with everyone putting in all-canadian and/or all-american teams. You can use guys who pulled out or refused to play if you want, but it's more interesting to pick people who just weren't chosen.
You can nominate guys on a nation's taxi squad to your all-omissions team if you want.
One last thing, please don't pick on other people for their choices. This isn't a "pick the 6 most glaring omissions" contest, it's just a fun little diversion for people to make their own judgement calls. If you don't like, for example, that I put in Ludemann from Germany over someone else, don't get mad, just put that someone else on your squad.
My team:
Goal
-----
-Ryan Miller (USA)
Defence
----------
-Mirkko Ludemann (Germany) *he sort of left on his own, but was also in a way pushed out because he didn't like former coach Greg Poss*
-Roman Hamrlik (Czech Republic)
Forwards
----------
-Patrick Marleau (Canada)
-Tim Connolly (USA)
-Jussi Jokinen (Finland)
