You don't have to like them. You define best all around. I can only rank 2.

1. Ric Flair
2. Shawn Michaels

92-97 Bret Hart is practically my gold standard for in-ring ability, though I recognize Shawn Michaels could be considered 1B.

I think Randy Savage is probably the best overall total package. Excellent to great in pretty much all areas.

Steve Austin
Ric Flair
Shawn Michaels
Randy Savage
Kurt Angle
Chris Jericho
Ted DiBiase

All of them can wrestle and talk...
And are more than capable to carry the top belt.
DiBiase is very underrated...
And should have been world champ...
But at least he headlined Wrestlemania.

P.S.
I forgot about Austin.
He defined the Attitude Era...
But I found him annoying in the early 2000s.
I absolutely hate the "What?" chants.
Angle was just a big miss.
I simply liked the other ones more...
And wanted to get more unheralded names up there.

My honourable mentions are Nick Bockwinkel...
Owen Hart...
Mr. Perfect...
Eddie Guerrero...
And Tetsuya Naito.
It is an absolute travesty that Mr. Perfect and Owen Hart never came close to the top belt.
They were as good as Bret Hart in the ring...
And they were definitely the better talker.
In fact...
I truly believe that Owen Hart may be even better than his brother in the ring...
But he was just never truly pushed.
Bockwinkel is better known for his big vocabulary promos...
But he is a great technical wrestler too...
And Eddie's charisma alone would have lifted him into the great echelon...
But he just had too much demons.
Naito...
Meanwhile...
Is my favourite promo in New Japan.
They actually translate well even with subtitles.

Hell baby
He’s not my favorite by any means but Cena carried the company for a decade and a half, moved ungodly amounts of merch, was a safe worker, is great on the mic, and outside of the ring he’s granted the most make a wishes ever. Branched out into Hollywood.

Jericho is in the discussion for more modern guys

Flair is probably the GOAT. Shawn Michaels is up there. As unpopular as he can be Triple H is up there.

Very difficult to narrow down to 7, but I agree with most of the names thrown out. Nice to see Bockwinkel mentioned in particular. I'd add Daniel Bryan as well. Probably the most talented wrestler to really take off since 2000. Styles is up there with anyone in terms of in-ring talent but he's not a great talker and probably never will be, with Omega pretty much in the same boat. It's too difficult to fully assess the Japanese greats when I can't understand their promos but in terms of smoothness and charisma Tanahashi and Okada would probably rank high. I definitely disagree with seeing Cena anywhere near such a list. Mid card at best in ring with his goofy selling, poor move execution, bad psychology. Naturally talented talker yes, but he rarely used it to cut a great promo.

I'd love to see a match where DiBiase's wrestling is something to write home about.

You know...
I actually find him to be pretty good technically...
But I have seen only about 4 or 5 matches.
Perhaps I need to go back and see more of his matches.

I didn't at all. Great personality but really limited in the ring.

Yeah...
I re-watched some of his matches...
And it is more of a gut-feeling than anything.
I feel he could do more if he wanted to...
Because he was quite fluid in his hold exchanges...
And he sold great...
But he limited himself as a cowardly heel.

Also...
His opponents did not help.
Other than Savage...
He did not really wrestle anybody who could really work.
I looked back...
And he had one King of the Ring opening match with Ricky Steamboat...
Just around the time he was about to retire.
That was about it.

Yeah, he could definitely sell. He just had little by way of moves or technical ability. Even when he was a face in the UWF.
