I know everyone here is 100% against diving but that's what the NHL is now.
  • The Bruins got jobbed by diving and refs the last time they were in the playoffs.
  • They missed the playoffs the last two years by a couple points because they never draw penalties.
  • They're down 2-1 in the series because the refs buy it every time Ottawa dives.

I hate diving as much as the next guy but I hate losing even more. In the modern NHL, if you're not diving, you might as well not even show up to the rink, because no team that plays it straight is ever going to win anything again.

Three Bruins ate punches to the face in the game. They didn't take penalties because they absorbed the punches. Ryan took a little swipe in the visor and acted like he got a Mike Tyson uppercut.

Welcome to the National Soccer League.

Although I blame The ref. Its OK for Methot to punch Schaller square in the face right in front of them and he gives them both two minutes when schaller did absolutely nothing and then thay make that call in overtime against the Bruins:madfire: :madfire:.

The Bruins need to look by it and get ready for game four, but the NHL should diffidently send those refs to Siberia for some training!

Sadly it's true. I posted in another thread that the refs tend to miss high sticks when the player doesn't embellish it and tries to play through it. At this point there's no reason to not embellish the calls, you get screwed if you don't.

I disagree with full on diving, but this league is as much hockey as it is acting now...

You can also dive and lose.

See the Habs since 1993 and the Senators this year.

Bruins will win this series. Even with all the injuries and that hand job in OT by the refs yesterday...

I just want to know what the deal is with the Bs falling down left and right without being touched by the other team. Is it just me or do we "catch an edge" more than any other team in the league?

Montreal and Ottawa dive left and right these playoffs. Their crowds buy right in and eventually the pressure gets to the refs.

It's a poor direction for the NHL to head into.

Ottawa posters had the audacity to call out Chara for embellishing.

I still remember when flyin' Bobby Ryan hurt himself diving on a Seidenberg "headshot". Double leg tuck and everything.

Big dive yesterday on that Marchand "crosscheck" in the first.

Biggest diver on that team.

But you can dive all you want. When you don't have a good team, you will still lose.

Go Bruins!

Chara dove. I also don't think the Sens are that big of divers. I just think the officiating in the NHL is awful.

Bang On! Unfortunately!

There was a time when you pretty much had to decapitate a player to get a penalty in OT because the Refs didn't want to decide the game. Last nights call was so pathetic and trending towards bush league territory. This is the NHL and the players and fans deserve better, way better!

Yeah, all teams do it, and I don't find that the Sens are any better/worse in this regard.

My gripe is that the Ryan head-snap came in OT, and on the heels of a borderline hit to the head. Take 'em both, or let 'em ****ing play. The third option of an isolated roughing call in OT is a DISGRACE.

i asked my friend this exact question and he said the Garden ice is known to be one of the worst in the league, but Im with you because they fall everywhere they play.
Maybe time to look at the cat that sharpens the skates?

Let's not forget the guy working the game, Tim Speel, is known as "a referee that many cite as one of the worst in the business"

Thanks NHL.

The scarey thing about that is that the best refs are picked for the SC Playoffs - so if Peele is one of the best what is that saying about Officiating in general. The worst thing about Peele is that he isn't even consistent from period to period.

Errr, we have Marchand. Love the guy, but he's not above embellishing, selling or outright diving to get a call.

Is what it is, as you say it's now part of the game and if you don't embellish, you tend not to get any calls. Just as long as the Bruins keep it to a bare minimum I'll live with it. That said, I don't think the Bruins have been innocent in that department the last few years.

Exactly. This myth that the Bruins don't dive is absurd. They do it all the time.

So if the belief is that the team is losing because they won't dive, the OP is way off. They dive on a regular basis. Every game. And you know what? Every team does too. Some more than others, but all teams have players that fall over and exaggerate calls every game. It's part of the game now.

I disagree.

The Bruins have gotten far, far fewer powerplays than any other team over the past 10 years.

So either it's an NHL conspiracy, or they're not diving as much as others.

Unless you've got a better theory.

I mean, you only have to look at the last game. The Bruins took 3 punches to the face and turned the other cheek. Bobby Ryan sold it.

Trouble is, if it were the Bs flopping to sell a call, they'd get the embellishment penalty and have to go on the PK.
