Hey guys,

I've been commissioner of a league with close friends for a couple years now. It's H2H points based keeper league (3 players carry over every year). The first year we turned on draft picks and the second we turned them off. A couple teams left and we decided to do a re-boot. The draft pick trades got ridiculous - teams trading all their picks for players.

Are there any draft pick rules that can keep the sanity in my league? I don't know how to approach it or if I should let nature take it's course.

Hey there,

just finished our first year of a keeper league and we decided to implement this rule moving forward

No team can accumulate 5 picks in any given 3 round interval

so let's say for the first 3 rounds, you can have 2 picks in the first, 1 in the second, 2 in the third and that's legal.
But you cannot have 3 in the first, 2 in the second, 1 in the third.

One team had traded most of his non keeper players for picks, which is fine i understand it's a strategy in keeper pools, but some teams did not like that the following season was nearly predetermined by one team moving all 16 of his picks in the top 8 rounds.

I think one should trust the owners in the league to do what is in the best interest of their teams, as long as there is no collusion involved.

That being said, in the league where I commish, we have a rule in place that the draft picks can be traded only for the next upcoming draft. So no one can trade away the future of the whole team at once. We can trade next year`s picks when the current year`s draft is ongoing though, and that adds a little depth if there are players certain teams would like to target.

This. If you can't trust your managers not to destroy the league why are you playing with them. I play in a Keep 5 and we have no restrictions other than 1 for 1 picks. Every year some teams end up with lots of picks early. And there are often 1 or 2 teams that have a couple picks in the first 7-8 rounds.

If there is money involved teams may go for it to win and then rebuild the next year. How your managers value picks vs players will evolve over time.
