I like this for the Caps, solid player, good physicality and speed and flashes some actual skill on occasion too. The offense has never really showed, but in the right situation it might, and he’s good enough in the all around game to be a positive even if it doesn’t.

Seems a little rich for a 4th liner

He may just be a 4th line energy guy, but he's one of the more noticeable guys in that sort of role. He does a good job of flying around hitting everything and setting a tone. Which is what most coaches would prefer to spend a very small "premium" on. Maybe a few hundred k $$$ over what he'd be "worth" in a vacuum...but pretty easily worth it in the ability to actually make an impact with limited 4th line sort of minutes.

And they kept the term down, which is absolutely critical with players like this. They have a tendency to disintegrate into ineffective rubble at a moment's notice whenever the injuries start to accumulate.

He and Chychrun are childhood besties. No surprise they signed him for 2 years with Chychrun on an expiring deal. The Capitals are good at fostering an environment to make guys want to stick around and resign. Years ago they did it with Dowd and Jensen who are close.
