From the games I have watched so far, the intensity and physicality of these first games is staggering. I am unsure if the Leafs can play that style. Now I don't think any of the Canadian teams can as well, but if we are lucky enough to get to the semi's its going to very interesting to see how we compete against some of those ultra competitive and physical teams. Even the Tampa Florida game was crazy hard and competitive. Do you think we will have what it takes??

That Tampa vs. Florida game was pretty crazy yesterday. The winner of this series if they continue to play like that, if they go seven games, and then play that way again in round 2, another long series, and they are going to be beat up. Go ahead, beat the hell out of each other.

Whichever of Florida/TB gets to the semi-finals may be running on fumes. Simply not feasible to play that way for an entire four rounds. Besides, notice how many shots they both gave up? Not a formula for success against a team with a Matthews in the lineup.

It's funny, really.

These leafs have never, ever NOT shown up for the playoffs. The leafs have never not taken a series to the limit.

Technically i guess the WSH series didn't go 7gms but with 5OT games in 6 that was about as close as a series gets.

Even teams like tampa have no-shows and get swept by the likes of columbus. Vegas got wiped in 5gms by the only good team they faced in the playoffs last year - Leafs have never been beat like that. the Bruins have been run over by the Bolts twice in the past 3yrs. The Caps got destroyed in 5 by the islanders last year. The blues were handled easily by the CANUCKS last year. The Pens got wiped in 4 by the HABS. The oilers got beat in 4 by the friggen hawks.

Last 3 series we've played all went to the last deciding game and we lost them by a collective score of 15-5. Outscored 4-0 in the 3rd period the first time, then 5-1 and 3-0 losses. You can yap all you want about how it was "close" but at the deciding moments it wasn't close at all, it was like we didn't even show up.

Are you going to tell us more about the "no shows" of the defending cup champions? What a joke. It's just embarrassing to hear you keep going on about how good we are and how good these other teams that actually win in the playoffs sometimes aren't. Just stop already FFS and put the bragging on hold until we actually win something.

Rest assured I am more embarrassed by your takes.

the Leafs are far more equipped to handle a more "intense" style of game than they have been in years past. If we end up losing to Montreal I suspect it will not be because we cannot match their intensity. It will be because we are receiving sub-standard goaltending and/or facing elite goaltending.

What's actually embarrassing is how much our own fans downplay our own quality and intensity, while building opposing teams up into these infallible powerhouses that they aren't. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Zeke's posts, and I appreciate them. It's informative and helps provide a clearer, more truthful picture, instead of only focusing on what's gone right for other teams, and what's gone wrong for us. It's a good counter to the endless negativity and emotional reactions.

The 1st game of each round has been incredible, every game.

The only teams that I've seen that I think can play with our Leafs is TB/FLA/LV, even then TB relied a little too much on PP and SH goals and FLA are dumb as rock when it comes to taking stupid stupid PIM's. The rest of the teams look unorganized, not committed to team defence and rely a little too much on dump the puck / fight for the puck / hope you get the puck back. It's early and only one game, and any team can find that playoff gear at any time.

The way the Leafs control the game / puck, 5 on 5, many of those US teams will have a problem generating offence against us. Many of them don't have an issue with giving the puck up to fight for the puck. We have no issue taking the puck and playing keep away. I sincerely feel that this year , teams will have to change how they play to beat us, where in years past we had to change our game to compete against Wash, Boston or CLB.

Outside of LV, I think our toughest opponent is going to be in the North.

The Leafs have multiple guys who can muck it up. At this stage, it's a very good, well-rounded lineup compared to previous years.

I have no doubt these guys will turn up the physicality if necessary.
