Not that they don't have a point about purchasing power, but I would go by sale prices rather than listed prices.

This is like talking about the highest-priced tickets listed on Stubhub, rather than what they're actually going for.

The actual cost will be higher in all likelihood. Toronto is messed up right now and houses like this one will have a bidding war taking it up another 20+%.

The value of the house you live in is irrelevant. Unless you're selling to downsize and move to the middle of no where, it doesn't matter if it's a $50k house or five million. Of course the better parts of town cost more.

I have no trouble believing that house is a million bucks in a major city where demand is probably high. Is it a steal?

You aren't paying $1 million for the house, you're paying about $70k for the house (give or take) and $930k for the land. Now, is that worth it? I'm not sure about the market in Toronto, although obviously as a major city property will be very expensive, so I would guess that it is at least somewhat close.
